Publisher's Summary

Josie flinches as she takes in the faded blue sports jacket wrapped around the girl they just pulled from the water. Josie knew someone who’d once owned that jacket. He had died in her arms five years ago.

Heavy rain pours on the small town of Denton, causing the riverbanks to break and the body of a young girl to float quietly to the surface. With no crime scene to examine, the odds are against Detective Josie Quinn and her team. Mercifully, the victim’s body is perfectly preserved, right down to the baseball patch on the jacket she is wearing. Josie can’t hide her devastation - her dead ex-husband, Ray, owned one just like it.

Following the trail back to her high school, Josie identifies the girl as Beverly Urban, a troubled student rumored to have been dating Ray before she left town for good. It looks like a tragic accident until the autopsy reveals a bullet in her head and the heartbreaking secret she was keeping.

Josie visits the salon where Beverly’s mother used to work, believing she was at the heart of a terrible scandal around the time her daughter’s life was taken. With the Denton wives remaining tight-lipped, Josie’s only hope is a secret meet-up with a terrified woman willing to talk. But she is murdered moments before giving Josie crucial information. It’s clear that someone is prepared to keep on killing to stop the truth from getting out.

Digging deep into memories of her own past with Ray is the only advantage Josie has on this twisted killer...but at what cost?

Another jaw-dropping crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal best-selling author that will have you absolutely gripped. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni, and Rachel Caine.

Not the best

I started on book 4 in series
This is not my favorite. Will continue the series tho. The old high school drama in this one was just not appealing. Wanting Josie to get past her past at some point.

It was ok

I have purchased all the books in this series. This one did not give me to much too look forward to. I was able to know the whole plot of the story almost from the get go. Also the author uses "she/he said" way too much. I couldn't concentrate because it was "then Gretchen said" or "Noah said" she needs to find a better way to get the point across without he/she said ALL THE TIME. I don't feel like continuing the series unless there is more effort .

Detective Josie Quinn

Plot. The Detective Josie Quinn series consists of several police procedurals, most involving missing or murdered women or girls. The setting is a small town in Pennsylvania. Josie's childhood trauma is interwoven into each story; we watch her character struggle with her job, love life, and the brain-twisting murders traversing the series.

Liked, Characters. Stories are initially straightforward who-done-it murders that morph into complex mysteries to enjoy. Josie's circle of friends consists of her fellow cops, the medical examiner, and her boss, each with a unique personality. Her family is initially small, but you'll see it expand as the stories progress. Not too many characters to keep track of - as they are integrated into each story. You'll have fun getting to know the characters and puzzling solutions. You'll find yourself muttering, "Wait ... what?" near the end of most books as the plots twist and surprises abound.

Not so hot. The first three books were poorly narrated by Eilidh Beaton as diction and child-like pronunciation were annoying. But stick with it as the rest are well read by Kate Handford. Production is fine, bumped speed to 1.4 - a preference, not a criticism.

The series is written by Lisa Regan and released from early 2018 through today. Bookouture published iinitially, later picked up by Hachette.

Recommended murder mysteries.

This my second book by Lisa Reagan

I need to go to the beginning of this series. i read book 12 then book 9. The characters are believable and can be related to.

I have listened to these two books over the last 3 days and cannot wait to go to either book 1 or book 10. Decision, Decisions.....

find the killer

I struggled with this book. I feel it was searching for the killer. Each possible drafted on too long. the author has much better books . I felt it was hard to connect her to the true killer, if it hadn't been for the reader.

What am I going to do now?!

I’ve listened one after the other and now they’re finished. Yes, they are a little farcical if you dissect them, but I didn’t. I just enjoyed them. The characters were likeable and developed well. The stories interesting although sometimes I thought “what?!” as the characters are also prone to say.

Again, I’d definitely advise that they be read/listened to in order. I worried when the narrator changed after the first few books but they were both excellent. I would advise people not to move to a town called Denton! Which is apparently small and homely with what must be an extremely large cemetery.

Excellent escapism. Thank you to the author and narrators for bringing the characters to life, providing me with an entertaining week and a half. I miss them already.

Twists and turns

I really enjoyed this story, well read, with lots of twists and turns. It had a surprise ending that I hadn’t guessed.
