Publisher's summary

The last thing Wilder Abbott needs is a houseguest. Solitude has been his stoic companion for nearly a decade. He prefers to brood over his mistakes in seclusion. Besides, he gets enough social interaction as a high school science teacher in Calamity, Montana.

But when his oldest friend calls, begging for a favor, Wilder begrudgingly agrees. For the next two months, he’ll give up his guest room to his friend’s little sister.

Iris Monroe isn’t the girl Wilder remembers. Gone is the shy, quiet mouse 10 years his junior who always had her nose in a book. Grown-up Iris talks too much and asks too many questions, especially about his past. And her bright smile and clear blue eyes are hard to ignore.

Two months. He just has to survive two months. Except Iris is as nosy as she is beautiful. And his secrets prove hard to hide when she’s living under his roof.

So good!

This is a sweet, low angst romance. There is a bit of brother’s best friend and forced proximity. Iris is such an interesting character. I liked her strength, her uniqueness, and her desire to help others. Wilder is a broody, grump with a past. Their relationship is fun to read about.

The narration was fantastic! Good narration can elevate a good story to great. That is definitely the case here. Ryan Hudson was perfect as Wilder. Ava Erickson is always great, and she was great as Iris. Highly recommend this book and the whole series!

Ms. Sunshine Meets Mr. Grumpy

Opposites attract in this book, The Brood. Iris is a tattooed extrovert who comes into Wilder’s life for what was supposed to be a 2-month stay. He's a teacher, she's an influencer, and her brother is his friend. Wilder was a grump, but he grew on me. I loved the surprise plot twist! The narration was fantastic, too!

Solid, forced proximity, brother’s best friend romance in this small town series!

The Brood is book 6 in Devney Perry’s Calamity Montana series which is such an underrated series! I love this small town series so much and this one has so many favorite tropes of mine: brother’s best friend, age gap, roommates/forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, and a widower hero.

Wilder is a highschool teacher and gets a call from his best friend Danny one day who is calling in a favor. Danny’s sister Iris is a social media influencer who will be traveling through Montana and needs a place to stay, so Danny asks if she can be Wilder’s temporary roommate. Wilder hasn’t seen Iris in 13 or so years and isn’t quite sure how he feels about sharing his space with someone, but he feels super pulled to Iris upon seeing her. While Wilder is broody and Iris is the complete opposite…sassy, tattooed and not afraid to go after life how she wants no matter what her family thinks. Somehow these opposites end up being perfect for one another. Iris has always been excited about her next adventure, but now Wilder has her questioning whether she even wants to leave Calamity…

This was such an easy read to get swept up into, the romance is low angst and it was just fun seeing Iris and Wilder fall for one another. Wilder is a widower and we see his complicated feelings about that explored. I loved how these two brought the best out in one another and were such a steady balance.

A Solid Brother’s Best Friend

Siblings’ best friend isn’t my favorite trope, because it can be over the top reactions, but Devney Perry did a good job with the story telling in the Brood. Iris is an influencer and Wilder is a grumpy science teacher. The story is good, the pacing is great, the chemistry and character development perfect. It’s a great time and a fantastic ending to a good series.

A Brood and Miss Sunshine

When Wilder's best friend calls in the favor he owes, he doesn't expect to have the little sister all grown up and sexy. Wilder enjoys his solitude and to have Iris in his space isn't what he wants. I liked the attraction between Wilder and Iris. This is a great addition to this series. The narration of Ava Erickson and Ryan Hudson was great!

Amazing

This was so great. Devney Perry never disappoints. I finished this audiobook in one day. The narrators were amazing. The plot, amazing. I loved Wilder and Iris. This was a wonderful edition to the Calamity series. I hate it is over so soon now I have to wait for my next Devney Perry fix.
