Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Devney Perry writing as Willa Nash comes a small town Montana romance.

Duke Evans didn’t expect to find a beautiful woman in a staring contest with a bison on his favorite hiking trail. He also didn’t expect to see her again after rescuing her from the surly beast. As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he’s had his fair share of surprises but none as pleasant as pulling over a shiny black car and finding his mysterious hiking companion behind the wheel.

Only she lied to Duke. She gave him a name as fake as her hair color. According to her driver’s license, her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic on the radio over the past two weeks.

He’s not sure why Lucy lied about her identity or why she’s in Calamity. And she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret.

Duke doesn’t want her money. He wants to know why this beautiful woman is on the run. And as long as the star shines on his badge, he’s going to find out.

Nothing orig'l; storyline missing, erotica present

Started out interesting, then the storyline waned and was finally gone, and it turned into erotica. The characters were no longer respectable, admirable, intriguing...Narrators were good, but the material was just, well, same old, same old. Wish there had been more character development, more organic relationship building, characters that weren't one dimensional. Really, do authors think we enjoy a book simply because the author can write erotica? ANYONE CAN WRITE EROTICA. A good author knows his or her readers want to be invested; but when the author can't even invest in his or her own characters, it's time to throw the book back.

*Sigh*...Jason Clarke Need I Say More!!!!

This is the first book in a new series by Willa Nash. This story was great. Willa put a new spin on the famous heroine trope, and I totally approve. I really liked Duke and Lucy's banter and the build of their relationship. As always, the side characters are amazing, present, but they don't take away from the main characters. I enjoyed the suspense in this story as well. I read this book in one sitting, and I don't even regret skipping a meal or two. I was totally immersed in this story, and I cannot wait for book 2.
The narration in this book is amazing!! Ava and Jason make a great pair, and make these characters seem so very real. Dive in, you won't be disappointed!!!!

I need more of this series!!!!

The Bribe is the first book of the Calamity Montana series. It’s also the first book by Willa Nash. The Bribe is about a famous singer Lucy Ross (hiding out as Jade Morgan) and Duke Evans (Sheriff of Calamity). Lucy has been scared into hiding from a crazed stalker making sure no one knows who she is or her whereabouts. However, once pulled over Duke quickly finds out who she really is. Desperate to keep herself hidden Lucy offers him a ton of money to not give a ticket and keep her identity hidden. Duke has other plans and intends to find out what happened that sent her into hiding and make sure that not only she is safe but also protect his small town from what could happen there if exposed.

This book was so good. These two characters has so much chemistry, and love for each other. Even though Lucy was a famous singer she was kind and thought of others. Her friendship with Everly had me laughing at points, and the fact that she wanted Travis above anyone else to like her because of how much he meant to Duke spoke highly of her character, as I'm sure most people in that situation would not be comfortable with that relationship. That relationship with Travis alone says how much of a huge heart Duke does have. You will laugh, cry, swoon, and get upset that you have to wait so long for the next book in this series. after that epilogue I NEED the next book and I need it NOW!

"In public you're Jade. But behind closed doors, you're-" "Lucy?" she breathed. I shook my head. "Mine"

The Bribe: Calamity Montana Book 1

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 5 STARS

Ava Erickson & Jason Clarke have very rarely disappointed, and they didn’t this time! Loved their narration! Well done!

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 STARS

I really enjoy how Devney Perry writing as Willa Nash always has a mysterious air to her stories that never overshadow the romance journey. This story in particular sticks out with this point because of the extreme nature of the mystery plot-point. It’s been a couple of years since this story published so I feel okay about just saying what needs to be said and not be afraid of spoilers so … Lucy’s stalker wasn’t just an annoyance she was trying to ghost. The stalker was legit dangerous but instead of dragging that danger into the journey in Calamity, Devney made a choice to focus on the romance and have the ‘stalker’ be a plot-point that was being told to us and not really living it present day. Make sense? Until the end, of course, when it all came to a head.

I dunno, but I really liked this choice because it allowed me as the reader to focus on Lucy and Duke in the now and how they grew their relationship and how Lucy was becoming a part of the community. The ‘drama’ didn’t get in the way of building the romance. HUGE PLUS!

Also, even though this is a ‘small-town’ setting, Devney didn’t throw in all the typical shenanigans of small-town living into the mix. It would have been really easy because of who Lucy was to throw in all the busybody, in your face, everyone knows everything shenanigans in the mix of Lucy’s journey, but that would have ruined the space that Lucy & Duke needed to grow their relationship, etc etc etc.

I really loved this story and I’m about to dive into the next book because I’m incapable of just reading one book without binging LOL if they’re already published, and I feel good about this series!

Amazing small town romantic suspense

This book followed Jade a country singer trying to relocate after her world falls apart and a small town sheriff. I found this book very entertaining and loved the characters. It was full of mystery and suspense. I listened to the book and the whole last hour of the book had me on the edge of my seat. Ava Erickson and Jason Clarke did a great job portraying the emotions of the characters. If you love romantic suspense grab this one.

3 swooning stars

I never read a book by this Author before and after reading The Bribe I can say that is going to change. This book was a cute small town romance with a little suspense that will keep you turning the pages.

The reason for the 3 stars only is because I’m not one for a insta-love and this is definitely one of those romance books. So if you like that kind of thing you’ll love this!

The story was pretty good and I did enjoy Lucy and Dukes chemistry, but if I was being totally honest….the real reason I kept reading this book was I had a major book crush on Duke Evans 😍The things he says and does makes you wish you could find yourself a Duke…plus who doesn’t love a man in uniform.

So if your looking for a book that will make you swoon, laughing out laugh, and keep you on your toes and ends with a HEA look no further!

Audiobook review: My lord I could listen to Jason Clarke voice for hours.. 😍 He really brings the story to life. Ave Erickson did a fabulous job as always. I love listening to her too. The both are 5 star narrators in my opinion..

Fabulous Romantic Suspense!

First, I read on a few reviews these books could be read as stand alones. I disagree…there are too many spoilers in subsequent books in the series. They’re much better read in order. Now to my review!

Devney Perry’s style of romantic suspense hits all the marks for me! Always a great plot with well-developed, relatable characters…I’m engaged from beginning to end. The elements of suspense are believable, but not so gory that it’s tough to read. She doesn’t shy away from the horrible things her characters experience, but her style doesn’t make me overly agitated while still dying to know how it’s all going to work out, And the romance…whoa, she includes delectable bits of sweet AND steamy throughout, I love that I’m hit with surprise twists in most of her books, and she knows how to bring a story full circle so I’m never left wondering what happened when the book ends. Her epilogues are wonderful!

The Bribe was particularly fun! It’s a contemporary, small-town, hidden identity romantic suspense novel. Both the H and h were inherently good people, which made for such an enjoyable romance, The meet cute was unique, and I liked how the story progression didn’t follow every expected step found in the typical romance. Set in Calamity, Montana, the town residents added good color without detracting from the main storyline.

As always, vocal performances by Ava Erickson and Jason Clarke drew me into the story in a way only they can. The Bribe is a fabulous start to the series. I’m buying book two immediately after I submit this review!

Duke & Lucy

Absolutely loved this book! Romance & Police Procedurals are my two favourite genres, so the combination of romance and crime investigation in this book made me love it even more. I have just purchased the rest of the series so far to listen to, and I'm looking forward to enjoying those next. The writing is so rich and descriptive, I can absolutely picture the kind of small town described and the stunning Montana scenery, even though I'm English and unlikely to ever get to see Montana in person.

Brilliant narration from two of my favourite narrators. I am always especially impressed by Jason Clarke's ability to range from sexy gravel to a very convincing female voice.

thrilling romance

Loved the story about Duke and Lucy as it wasn't a straightforward romance.
Threats from a stalker prompted Lucy to hide in the small town of Calamity where Duke is the sheriff.
Packed with interesting characters this is a great read I gladly recommend ❤

Under the covers

Sadly a formulaic tale so often found in chic-lit, beautifully narrated but failed to hold my interest past 2 hrs. NOT FOR ME.

an entertaining listen

The Bribe was an entertaining listen. I liked both the 2 main characters and enjoyed the little bit of drama/suspense throughout the storyline. The ending made me really want Everly's story, so I'm glad she's up next. Bonus epilogue was super sweet!

These 2 narrators are on my favourites list, so naturally I very much enjoyed listening to their performances.

Interesting plot, with loveable characters- I was motivated to listen with rapt attention until the end. Not always the case with some audio books. The narrators were fantastic- both amongst my favourites.
