Despite our best intentions, we often have trouble dealing effectively with strong emotions. What if you had a conscious, skillful way to respond in times of anger, fear, jealousy, shame, and other powerful emotions? Meditations for Emotional Healing gives us a collection of insights and practices for bringing compassion, clarity, and understanding to our emotional lives-instead of expressing or repressing them in unhealthy ways.
When we seek comfort and relief from stress, Tara Brach teaches, we often unconsciously turn to false refuges such as material wealth, approval from others, or a preoccupation with the past and future. Yet by cultivating true refuge in this moment, not only can we find shelter from the storms of life but we also open ourselves up to fully experiencing joy and fulfillment. Here, Tara Brach guides a meditation using the therapeutic R.A.I.N. process for releasing fear and healing through self-compassion.
How do you cope when facing life-threatening illness, family conflict, faltering relationships, old trauma, obsessive thinking, overwhelming emotion, or inevitable loss? If you're like most people, chances are you react with fear and confusion, falling back on timeworn strategies: anger, self-judgment, and addictive behaviors. Though these old, conditioned attempts to control our life may offer fleeting relief, ultimately they leave us feeling isolated and mired in pain. There is another way.
A profound transformation can occur just by training your attention in awareness - a practice sweeping schools, workplaces, and institutions across the country with its capacity to decrease stress, cultivate inner calm, and expand wisdom and creativity. Clinical psychologist and meditation teacher Tara Brach has been at the forefront of mindfulness-based therapy since its inception, successfully bringing principles of mindfulness to alleviate depression, chronic pain, and more.
According to Dr. Tara Brach, feelings of shame and unworthiness are the source of many problems we experience with our relationships, careers, creative endeavors, and most fundamentally, our spiritual unfolding. On Radical Self-Acceptance, this respected clinical psychologist and Buddhist meditation teacher shows you how to free yourself from the grip of your insecurities about being "good enough."
Why is it often so hard to truly connect with others, even those we care most about? "Our capacity to engage fully in relationship starts with becoming more awake and aware within ourselves," says Tara Brach. With Nourishing Intimacy, this renowned teacher offers an intensive training in tools, skills, and insights for cultivating self-compassion, overcoming inner obstacles, fostering authentic communication, and opening ourselves to healthy, openhearted relationships.

Russian roulette for meditations since there are only chapter numbers and each meditation begins the same way with no introduction as to which meditation it is. Very unhelpful, defeating the purpose of mindfulness. The actual meditations are fine, sometimes the pauses are a bit long, but that's fairly common for guided recorded meditations. You'd be better off getting a hard copy, maybe that would have a track list on the back. Or just buy individual copies of the meditations, then you'll know which is which.

Would you try another book written by Tara Brach or narrated by Tara Brach?
The book was full of thoughtful information and advice and contained meditations I would use again.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The book would be more useful if it had a chapter break at the start of each meditation. This would make it much easier to return to a particular meditation to use it again or to keep returning to it, instead of having to go through the rest of the section before it each time.

I read this book as part of my mindfulness course. It's inspiring for anyone facing hard times. You have to listen carefully and carry out the exercises and it would be helpful if these were pre-bookmarked so you can come back to them easier and practice them particularly if you're listening to some of this book in the car and can't place bookmarks in at the time.
