A chilling psychological thriller for fans of Gillian Flynn, Nicci French, Sophie Hannah, S. J. Watson and Elizabeth Haynes that will haunt you long after you've finished listening....

In this dark psychological thriller, Olivia Taylor believes she has suffered the worst life can throw at her after the breakup of her marriage. Full of hope, she starts a new life with her nine-year-old daughter, Ellie, only to find the worst is yet to come.

Emding falls short<br />

I really enjoyed listening to this book, but when the plot and ending all came together, it was too much, too quick! It felt like the author was suddenly on a deadline and had to end it quickly. I felt like too many things were left undone. I needed more.

Do women like this really exist?!!?

The performance was fantastic! And normally I love Kathryn Croft, but this... the main character is a hideous excuse for a mother let alone human being. I know, we all make bad decisions, and there has to be some level of "flawed" to build the story line; however, this is just heinous. The ending didn't shock me, and like others have pointed out, it seemed rushed and thrown together just to finish the book. I'll still read and listen to Crofts books, but if you're looking for a good one, let this one pass... it's not worth it. And will likely leave you frustrated and disgruntled like so many of the others, and myself.

Probably one of the worst books I've ever listened to

This was a very long uninteresting story about someone's ordinary life until the last 2 minutes of the story. It was such a disappointment. There was no foreshadowing to draw the reader in. I listened to the entire book and I'm still not sure exactly what was going on behind closed doors...a complete waste of my time and money.

Too drawn out. Then just ends

This is the only Kathryn Croft book I have been disappointed in. It was excruciatingly drawn out and then abruptly ended. I felt it left some loose ends.

A Disappointing One for Croft...

I have been a fan of Katherine Kroft's books for a few weeks now, the last 3 all being nearly page turners.
This one, unfortunately, was not. While I had some sympathy for the main character, I grew tired of the predictability of her thought processes. I knew that the main male in the story would ultimately change her life, but only when halfway through did I realize it wouldn't be quite as I'd initially expected.
I did enjoy the way 's. Craft told this story as the main character, speaking to the male. A different angle--which was really the only reason I finished the book.....that and Lisa Coleman's narration is always perfection!!!

A Hot Mess

The only thing that could get me through this sorry tale is another stellar performance by Lisa Coleman.
The main character is a sad excuse for a woman on every level. A fine example of the dim witted stereo type: women who let their desire to be loved by a man trump all form of reason. Childish and pathetic. I have never disliked a character more.
I have enjoyed other Kathryn Croft novels but this one missed the mark completely. The abrupt silly ending was the icing on the cake. A hot mess from beginning to end.

Soft core porn

I cannot recommend this book. The plot was nothing but abusive sex and a tiny twist at the end. I have enjoyed her other books so was pretty disappointed.

lifetime movie material

Was good, a little drawn out but at the end seemed rushed, left me wanting to know more about what happened to some characters at the end.

Stinker

I like Kathryn Croft, but this story was so bad. The characters were not sympathetic. Olivia is pathetic, Michael is a total jerk that no woman would subject her daughter to. The story was way too long for the small plot. It seemed like she was trying to cash in on the 50 shades fans, but the sex scenes were unbelievable. The ending was not satisfying. I found myself yelling at Olivia for being so weak and needy.

Don’t bother

It’s perverse and a slow slog. I can’t believe I actually finished it... definitely, time wasted.

I hated it

Olivia is a disappointment selfish and stupid woman. I was not convinced be her relationship or the ending. The book was 90% boring and slow. Even the readers voice was boring. Don't understand why this has such great reviews. A terrible book!

Behind Closed Doors

This book was far too long and drawn out and the central character, Olivia Taylor, was weak and dreary. The relationship between Michael and Olivia was also pretty unbelievable and incredibly brutal. He seemed such a pernickerity tedious control freak that I have no idea why she craved him so much.

A bizarre denouement too. Overall: a huge disappointment.

It the best but kept me keen to read

I did enjoy the book but it was rather predictable I felt. I'm not sure how to describe the way I felt at the end, more questions than answers to an end?

Failure. Don't bother

What disappointed you about Behind Closed Doors?

The story was unconvincing and weak. I was looking for a good, enjoyable listen and I like the psychological thriller genre, and whilst the narrator was excellent, the main characters in the book were awful. I guessed the denouement about a quarter of the way through, but hoped it was wrong and the story would get more developed, but it didn't. Terrible ending. It felt like the author was casting around for an idea of bringing the book to a close, and came up with something that was hasty and shocking.

Has Behind Closed Doors put you off other books in this genre?

No, I usually enjoy this genre.

Which character – as performed by Lisa Coleman – was your favourite?

None.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Behind Closed Doors?

The beginning, middle and end.

Any additional comments?

Narrator was excellent.

Not interesting

The story was flat and the conclusion did not justify the suspense.

None of the 3 main characters were likeable, and Olivia was difficult to relate to, her immediate obsession with her neighbour was not realistic.

Disappointing read the book should not be compared to Gillian Flynn or S.J Watson

page turner but a complete fail at the end

captivating story which is well written but a horrible and utterly flat ending. the main character is a flaky and weak person with severe pychological issues. implausible at times.
