A dream come true; a nightmare that is just beginning

Eve wanted nothing more than to be a mother. She and her husband, Aidan, planned to have a family, but with each devastating miscarriage her hopes dwindled. When she eventually gave birth to her daughter, Kayla, it should have been the happiest time of her life. Instead, it was a waking nightmare for Eve and one she was desperate to escape.

Now, Eve has left all that behind. She pretends that she never had a child and keeps her secrets close. But someone knows the truth. They know that Eve told a lie, and the clock is ticking before her shocking decision is revealed. Once the story comes out, there will be no way out for Eve. If people learn about the crime she covered up, they’ll never look at her the same way again. She must get her little girl back, before it’s too late. If she can’t, running away won’t be an option. This time, Eve will face the consequences and pay the price she should have paid years ago.

A heart-stopping psychological thriller with an ending you won’t see coming from #1 bestselling author Kathryn Croft, perfect for fans of Shari Lapena, C. L. Taylor and K. L. Slater.

Took awhile to get there…

Like many similar books, the main character hinted at something dark or mysterious from the past plaguing her current life. At first it played out well, but eventually this hinting became frustrating and wasn’t revealed until the end…an end that in my opinion, took a long time to get to and while an interesting twist, it was far less exciting than what I’d hoped from this book.

Was a good listen

By no means a thriller but was still a good listen. I really disliked the main protagonist because I couldn’t comprehend what she had done but the final chapters wrapped all that up and I was able to then have empathy for her. Good character development, good pacing and it kept me guessing until the end. Will definitely read another from this author. Great narration too!

British! Beguiling! Brilliant!

Having found this in Audible Plus catalogue, I was thrilled that I chose this intriguing and complexellent listen. Talented narrator, Barrie Kreinik, shows off her pitch-perfect vocal skills. She brought each character to life. A favorite author of mine, Kathryn Croft, presents subplots galore and makes for a well-paced thriller. Secrets and lies left me wanting more; Croft delivered. Worth a cherished credit. Highly recommended with a jaw-dropper of an ending. I will look for more with these two gifted women. Indeed I will.

Pretty good listen

The characters were well developed and introduced into the storyline well. the sequence that the events unfolded keeps one on the edge of the seat waiting for more to unravel. I would have enjoyed more to the ending however.

Kept my attention

I enjoyed listening to this book. Not too shocking but somewhat surprising. Enough that I was able to hold my attention and finish the book in a short time. Started out being difficult hearing a woman’s voice playing a man’s voice, but I got used to it. Good.

Good story surprise twist

This story is great! There’s a lot of backstory which some may find long and drawn out but in the end it makes a great sense why Croft wrote like this

Just OK

I kept listening to this expecting some huge revelation. The revelation came and went. While it was an unforgivable revelation, it fell short of my expectations unfortunately.
