Publisher's Summary

Insatiable Wives was the first book to explore the unique and secretive world of wife-sharing. In this groundbreaking work, Dr. Ley explores why and how some men not only allow but encourage their wives to pursue sexual relationships with other men. Long before the term cuckold was a common word thrown around in the media, Ley explored the history and science of cuckolding. Filled with fascinating interviews of real-life couples, historical narratives, and biological and psychological research, Insatiable Wives remains the foundational scholarly work explaining the motivations and experiences of wives who sleep with other men.

A fascinating listen

A fascinating study, made all the more interesting by Rose Caraway's wonderful narration.

The books description describes it as the "foundational scholarly work explaining the motivations and experiences of wives who sleep with other men." I don't think I would go that far, but then again there hasn't (to my knowledge) been a great deal of non-fiction written on the subject. Perhaps due to the dearth of previous work, much of the book seems to have been researched on the internet in 2008 and 2009. The audio version includes a pdf of the footnote citations. I thought that some of the best parts of the book were the "interludes" provided by the author interspaced between the chapters. They provided first person interviews and anecdotes conducted between the author and the subjects. Many of those were fascinating, others frankly a bit depressing. There are all sorts of motivations for persons to embark on this lifestyle, and plenty of obstacles placed in front of it by society and other mores.

With that said, on the whole, it made for a fine listen, with my interest being held even though the drier parts by the narrator's skill and delivery. Maybe it's just me, but I would swear that Rose Caraway could make even a reading of the telephone book sound sexy!

Gloriously Adapted for Audio

Dr. Ley’s work nicely contrasts with other similar, well received anthropological studies on female sexuality, and has fueled great discussions amongst our friends. In addition, I’ve been a fan of Rose Caraway’s work for years now, and hearing her illuminate Dr. Ley’s work is a real treat.

Eye opening

This is a wonderful book. With very valuable insight. I have experienced many of the things in this book and our marriage is stronger for not having to be bound by traditional ideals.

NONCONFORMIST LIFESTYLE CAN BE HEALTHY

Dr Ley defends the premise that alternate lifestyles can be perfectly healthy. When intelligent, consensual, responsible adults enter into alternate lifestyles other than monogamy, there can be fulfilling, healthy not to mention extremely sexually satisfying relationships.
This a book is a "must read" for women in bored marriages. If there is good communication with their parters there is hope for experiences that will bring passion and fulfillment and independence into their lives.

Insatiable wives

Having been involved in the lifestyle as a bull or third wheel I found this presentation extremely insightful and well presented. This honest representation of many aspects of this type of experience will be helpful for those curious about a realistic experience in the hot wife lifestyle

Communication about adventure vs security

A primer for this book is “Mating in Captivity”. I. W. addresses 78% of all marriages! (50% end in divorce and another 28% are unfaithful). There has to an alternative! Both books promote honest communication about sexual needs and wants between partners. “The woman’s sexual engine is harder to start but has much more horsepower than a man’s.”

Very informational

I found this book to be one of the better ones I’ve listened to, so far this year. It was brilliantly written and I was very much astonished at just how much I didn’t know about the history of women. I hated to hear this book end. I will definitely have to listen to it again in the future.

Interesting and informative

Dr. Ley presents fascinating stories of the people he interviewed who explore the sexual practice of hotwifing and cuckolding. I enjoyed learning from their perspectives and Ley’s research. Rose Caraway’s narration was fantastic as always!

Cheap and gross. Inaccurate depictions.

Don't waste your time this book is awful and I wish I could get a refund. How does garbage like this get published.

informative and Sexy

Great to redress an area that is not understood. Showing love and commitment, as well as the complications that are normal in every type of relationship.
