Publisher's summary

In the Celestial Empire, a land ruled by Immortals and stalked by Spirits and Beasts, a young girl from the slums of an unimportant city is found to have the Talent that may allow her to become an Immortal herself.

Sent to the storied Argent Peak Sect to harness her talent, she must work desperately to catch up to peers who have been preparing to walk the Way for years. The Sect grants new students only three months to prepare and grow before the true challenges begin and the disciples are freed to battle each other for resources and strength.

Contending with tests, strange teachers, unfriendly peers, and her own ignorance, Ling Qi must not only defeat many obstacles, but find those willing to stand at her side when the truce ends.

Can she learn to not only survive, but thrive on that journey?

Inspired by ancient folklore, modern martial arts, and Xianxia, this fantasy novel offers a mixture of life and action while developing a world both fantastic in setting yet familiar in the humanity of its inhabitants.

character driven cultivation hits perfectly

This over comes so many of the normal pitfalls of the genre. At the same time it capitalizes on many of the things that make the genre enjoyable. Cannot recommend enough if you enjoy cultivation stories but are very tired of flat characters and MCs that never develop. This series has something for you.

what a fun story.

I love female heroines. Fun read with the spirituality thrown in. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Worth it

Brilliant, once I got my head around the non-Eurocentric naming conventions I couldn’t put it away.

Not bad

I enjoyed the cultivation story , Although the pace was a little slow there could have been much more action involved

great book with one small exception

I found this book to be very well written with the exception that the names are very hard for a dumb English speaker to follow. Many of them are very similar and it added some confusion for me as an audio listener. The orator was exceptional throughout. She really carried this book out of the weeds for me and got me through the hump of "should I finish this?".

Good Book

I really like the way the characters were portrayed and the spirit beasts were a pleasant surprise

Fun story, a bit slow paced, confusing names

I swear, how the actual F am I supposed to differentiate the names Soo lin, Li soo yin and Soo Li Ling. Bruh, other CN novels are not as absurd with their naming. If only I had subtitiles.

Otherwise though, it was a fun story, and the narration was perfection. Just a bit slow paced, but I don't mind that.

Not perfect but left me hungry for more.

I really enjoyed this story. There were a couple small things about the characters choices that I thought were nonsensical (Like why would you focus on bow skills when you use a flute that you need two hands for? Or why does someone so focused on freedom end up joining a council? Also a tortoise??? Really?) but they failed to hinder my enjoyment of the novel. Most of them I hope will be expanded upon in future additions to the series. Following the names can also be a bit difficult at times, but by the end I felt like I had remembered mostly who was who. All in all by the end of the story I must say my biggest complaint was that there wasn't another one to listen to.

Awesome

Loved it. The story is awesome. The characters very well constructed. I liked the narrator's voice although she could still improve when changing from one character to another.
