An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Publisher's Summary
Reidon Ward will become a god.
He doesn't know it yet, of course. Reidon was born weak, sickly, and small. Afflicted with a painful disease and abandoned by his parents because of it, he has had to fight tooth and nail for every minor advantage life has allowed him.
However, his perseverance has not gone unnoticed, and when the most powerful artificial intelligence in human history takes an interest in him, things began to change quickly. Granted a CAD - a Combat Assistance Device - with awful specs but an infinite potential for growth, Reidon finds himself at the bottom of his class at the Galens Institute, one of the top military academies in the Collective. Along with his best friend, Viviana Arada, Reidon will have to start his long climb through the school rankings and on to the combat tournament circuits that have become humanity's greatest source of excitement and entertainment.
So begins the rise of a god. So begins the ascent of the Stormweaver.

I love the book, but it's too long
The world building, "magic system" and character development are all really well done. Cannot be denied.
The first time I read this book, I could not put it down. I was completely enthralled. I was hoping I would enjoy it just as much 2nd time around in audio form, but I found myself not having patience to sit through it all.
What comes across in the 2nd read, or listen in this case ...is that there are a lot of sections that you can skip through without really missing anything important storywise.
So I guess, my only complaint is that the book can be long-winded at times ...and even that isn't as big an issue on the 1st read/listen. On 2nd listen tho, and I recognize that this is nitpicking because I wanted the book to be a timeless classic that I could go back and enjoy over and over again, I feel like it's too long. Details are over-explained, and honestly there's a lot of fluff in there.
I honestly believe that the book would be better if it were pared down.
That said, I would still highly recommend this book to anyone into progression fantasy. It's a super creative interpretation of the genre, and I am very much looking forward to book 2.

A GREAT book with unique take on sci-fi fantasy.
Between O'Connor, Chmilienko, and Daniels. This book has the best making I've read in a while. 3 great artists. One very great book that is a little outside the norm.
The gamelit aspects are a different spectrum from the normal leveling.
The fantasy tech suits are a nice highlight for the story.
And lastly the story itself has a good bit of uniqueness that doesn't deprive the story of any action drama or mystery.
I highly recommend this to anyone who likes sci-fi fantasy, but don't expect much magic in the normal sense though. I feel that the magic like portions of the story will ramp up more in the second book.

Can’t wait for the next book
I bought the book on a whim, expecting it to be the same as all the other power levelling fantasys out there. Where the main character/s grow so exponentially and quickly that they become overpowered within the first 20 chapters, however the slow progression in levels aptly conveys the hard work that the characters put in coupled with the suspension before anticipated reveals each battle and moment feels weighty. Inspite of the world building and and balanced power system, the authors have obviously put in a lot of effort into each character. With even the background characters having substance and depth, making you genuinely care about the characters and their relations.

So much fun
Ok I’ll start the 1st 2 minutes I was pretty concerned I had wasted a credit, thought I’d give it a punt though,
After the prologue it was great 30 hours of great listening, I enjoyed the characters and there interaction, there’s some bits that I didn’t like there’s a bit to much repetition of certain phrases, but not enough to spoil it, overall a 👍🏻

A great first entry
Other reviewers have already said it, but this is pretty great book for the genre, with plenty of action but not excessively so. The writing quality is decent and you get value for your credit, I'd also so say there's minimal filler.
The characters a well rounded, the skill progression reasonable and consistent. Established rules and expectations are followed. There are unexpected twists and turns but this don't rely on the characters being irrational or rule braking. If rules are broken, the reasoning is well established and act as an evolution, in stead of braking your emersion.
some of the characters are exceptionally hard headed, but then again you often get that with exceptional people. A very minor critique, a touch more romance between the main characters might have been nice, as it's minimal at best, but it does seem natural and well written. Choosing between minimal or excessive though, I'd take the minimalist approach every time.
Oh and the narrations pretty great too, as it seems well suited to this type of story and character's.
So far so good, I look forward to the next one!

I can't believe I bought this book and it had only been out for a few days!
I love long books and to be honest, it suits my taste very well in every department.
I haven't even finished it yet and I am here to get the next instalment in my library for when I do - and I can't believe there is no next instalment in the series yet... now where is that crying emoji?

Streetfighter meets Harry Potter
Okay, so let's start by saying that while not everything in this book was to my taste, Iron Prince is still a clear 5 star listen / read. The writing was superb, the characters intelligent, the conversation natural and the story progression satisfying. O'Connor & Chmlenko have done a stand-up job producing a story that stands among the greats of the litrpg / gamelit genre. This book is incredibly easy to recommend, and translates well to narration - there are stats as are common in the gamelit genre, but they're not overwhelming.
I did have lots of little nit-picks, which I think all basically boil down to 'this wasn't quite my genre.' Set far in the future, this book at it's core is about a guy who goes to a school where the main aim is learning to beat the cr@p out of all the other students in ultra viscous, no-holds barred competitive tournaments. Sounds cool at first glance, but you've really got to like sci-fi and competitive fighting to enjoy it. I usually prefer fantasy games where I fight monsters, not other players.
The story is loooong at almost 34 hours, and there were a *lot* of fights in the book between characters I just didn't care about. I think this criticism holds regardless of genre tastes too. There's a lot of filler in this book - that 34 hours you see in the length section of the audiobook description could have easily been 24, and a much better story for it. Don't get me wrong - the scenes were all well written, but the story would have been exactly the same without them. I would have liked to see the MC learn from each fight he watched, not just enjoy them.
In terms of other negatives, levelling felt /blah/ and didn't get me excited at all. Too much emphasis was placed on tiny progressions - usually a good thing, I don't like OP characters and this isn't one - but in this case, underwhelming because we were constantly reminded how much better everyone else was. Why get excited when someone goes from rank D1 to D2, when there are 'A' ranked characters everywhere you look? Its great that the MC earns everything he gets. But most other books don't focus as heavily on the end destination, and I think there's a reason why.
There's other stuff I didn't enjoy, but I won't bother going into it because honestly, all in all these were minor issues in an otherwise impressive book. I won't be continuing the series, but I think if you're into competitive fighting and don't mind a little bit of waffle, you'll enjoy this book immensely.

I lost sleep over this book.
Solid progression fantasy. I enjoyed this as much as Cradle, which is damn near the highest praise I can give it. So if you like that but aren't a big fan of scifi, don't let that deter you from giving this a shot.
Only complaint I have to make is that not being able to jump straight into the next book is the worst.

bad pacing.
The series falls into alot of subplotsand troupes like its marking off a checklist, mc with the highest potential, underestimated mc, Mc has a special capacity to go though pain because of backstory, The Mc is supposedly the smartest because he scored well yet dives head first into forced conflict. the billing situation would have been resolved if the MC said that the other student falsified a senior officers orders to attack him.
that would result in immediate punishment and no repercussions for him as well. but they had to redeem the main antagonist so they did the boring subplot thing that entirely slowed down the pace of the novel. there is the slow pace then time skip repeat. I think this would have been a much more enjoyable book if the MC wasn't stacked with the s grade growth rate thing as the mc is playing by a different set of rules that takes away the enjoyment of progression and makes it a chore.
The title of the book was tacked on at the end as well not what I expect from a book this long to make it work within the story.

Definitely worth the listen
Storytelling, voice acting and story progression were on point. Intense action packed battles with a smart protagonist who is the underdog all the way to the very end, yet making visible progression in his own legend. Can't wait for the rest of the series!
