Publisher's summary

Zorian Kazinski has all the time in the world to get stronger, and he plans on taking full advantage of it.

A teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, Zorian is attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. A driven and quiet young man, he is consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, resenting the Kazinskis for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, Zorian has no time for pointless distractions, much less other people's problems.

As it happens, though, time is something he is about to get plenty of.

On the eve of Cyoria's annual summer festival, Zorian is murdered, then abruptly brought back to the beginning of the month, just before he was about to take the train to school. Finding himself trapped in a time loop with no clear end or exit, he will have to look both within and without to unravel the mystery set before him. He does have to unravel it, too, because the loop clearly wasn’t made for his sake, and in a world of magic even a time traveler isn't safe from those who wish him ill.

Fortunately for Zorian, repetition is the mother of learning….

Excellent story, good male voices, bad female voices

The story was fantastic.

On the con side, I went from turning the volume down to fast forwarding the mc’s sister. He really should not voice female characters. Recommend bringing on a female to help with their voices for the second book.

Definitely lived up to the hype.

I have heard plenty of great things about this series and was extremely excited to see it here. I am even more elated that it was even better than I was expecting from the great reviews. Everything from the magic to characters to the plot is fantastic and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.

good book bad narrator

This guy has a terrible Scottish accent that he uses for every other character. it's very nearly unlistenable.

Weird Female Voices but Great Story

Jack Voraces makes some... interesting (i.e. cringy) performance choices when it comes to all the female voices and one male character who for some reason sounds like a sterotypical old Japanese man from the 80s.

If you can get pass that this is a great coming to age story about a boy becoming who he wants to be rather than who he let himself become from apathy.

Keep in mind that the story is not yet finished so none of the major plot threads will be resolved and the book (while ending at a natural end point) will end right after a climax.

Good overall

Enjoyable book. There is a lot of repetition, but that is to be expected in a book involving a loop in time. If you can deal with some repetition and a story that spends a lot of time in a school setting, you should be fine. Overall I like the main character and it is nice seeing him grow both in power and in maturity.

The narrator is also fine. Some people have complained about his use of Scottish accents and such, but I see nothing wrong with it. I believe the narrator is English, so I don’t expect him to make characters sound like they are American.

A really enjoyable story

it's basically Harry Potter and Groundhogs Day put together and it's a really fun ride.

And the narration isn't as annoying as the other reviews say. There are only two characters voices that can be kinda annoying but I got used to them and one is barely in the book. I feel he does a good job.
