Zorian Kazinski has all the time in the world to get stronger, and he plans on taking full advantage of it.

A teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, Zorian is attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. A driven and quiet young man, he is consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, resenting the Kazinskis for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, Zorian has no time for pointless distractions, much less other people's problems.

As it happens, though, time is something he is about to get plenty of.

On the eve of Cyoria's annual summer festival, Zorian is murdered, then abruptly brought back to the beginning of the month, just before he was about to take the train to school. Finding himself trapped in a time loop with no clear end or exit, he will have to look both within and without to unravel the mystery set before him. He does have to unravel it, too, because the loop clearly wasn’t made for his sake, and in a world of magic even a time traveler isn't safe from those who wish him ill.

Fortunately for Zorian, repetition is the mother of learning….

The story was fantastic.

On the con side, I went from turning the volume down to fast forwarding the mc’s sister. He really should not voice female characters. Recommend bringing on a female to help with their voices for the second book.

Excellent story, good male voices, bad female voices

A thoughtful time loop story set in a Fantasy world. Was sad to have it end. Waiting on the next installment !

I have heard plenty of great things about this series and was extremely excited to see it here. I am even more elated that it was even better than I was expecting from the great reviews. Everything from the magic to characters to the plot is fantastic and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.

Definitely lived up to the hype.

This guy has a terrible Scottish accent that he uses for every other character. it's very nearly unlistenable.

Jack Voraces makes some... interesting (i.e. cringy) performance choices when it comes to all the female voices and one male character who for some reason sounds like a sterotypical old Japanese man from the 80s.

If you can get pass that this is a great coming to age story about a boy becoming who he wants to be rather than who he let himself become from apathy.

Keep in mind that the story is not yet finished so none of the major plot threads will be resolved and the book (while ending at a natural end point) will end right after a climax.

Weird Female Voices but Great Story

Overall I liked the book but there were some pacing issues both in the writing and narration. I ended up enjoying it much more at 1.15x speed and I hardly ever mess with playback speed.

The other pacing issue was with the story. It definitely starts out very slow and nothing much happens, but it picks up pace towards the second half of the book and I’m invested enough in the story to want to continue with the series.

That said the issue with the pacing is that a lot of the first half is spent in loops where not much happens but then in the second half we barely spend any time in loops where a lot happens so it feels uneven. There’s a lot about how Zorian masters the basics but then it skips over how he learns more advanced magic and it’s just mentioned in passing that he knows it all. I get that we can’t spend time in every loop but it would be interesting to hear something about the advanced techniques.

Enjoyable despite uneven pacing

And this is not, because we all want to be nice. This is a great story, enhanced with lively personification. Great entertainment

I agree with Leads of other reviews 5*

The basic story is great. The book has a lot of filler and seems to move slow.
I like this genre but I usually stay away from books where the MC is an underage teen. The character interactions are very often awkward. I am guessing authors choose this age because if the mc does something stupid or totally outrageous the readers can always assume he is young , what an idiot.
The story is good enough that I want to know more so I will listen to book 2 and see if the loop continues with some obvious advancements in a conclusion. If there is divine intervention or a magic orb that one hits this to an end , I will be very disappointed

Good story
