Publisher's Summary

"There's a secret to mastery that you may have never heard, a single little thing that only the very best in the world know how to do. In fact, I believe it is the only thing anyone can do to gain true mastery at anything, and it's an equal opportunity principle. It can be applied to fulfill your potential in business, in sports, in your relationships, as well as your overall life. Do you want to know what it is?"

In the crowd, Jason leaned forward, laser focused. Kicked off his basketball team after a season-ending fight, his only chance to play ball again was to sell enough books door-to-door over the summer to get back on the team. He never needed wisdom like he needed it now. But little did he know that the answer he was seeking was about to change his life forever. Pound The Stone is the intense and inspiring story of a young man's journey through the obstacles, defeats, and eventual victories that come while developing grit on the path to mastery. Told in the same engaging fable style as Chop Wood Carry Water, this is a deeper dive into the timeless principles that guide and inspire anyone who seeks greatness in life, and covers everything from true success, to the perfection trap, the value of failure, why courage is contagious, and why vulnerability can save your life. Pound The Stone will move you, inspire you, and hopefully encourage you to choose love and courage over fear and shame.

Best book I have ever read! And I read at least 100 books a year! So this is the real deal!

This is probably the first time I write book review regardless of how often I read. I can’t say enough how amazing this book is. I often ask myself how would people/society can properly inspire young and broken children to become their authentic and unbreakable self, and I have been searching for an answer for the longest time I could remember. I lost my brother a few years ago and there is no days passed that I don’t wonder what can I do to one day give back to children and especially those that don’t really have proper guidance through life as a way to give back and honor my brother’s death. And this book is the answer. Through the story of Jason and with the help of Rust and Jen among other significant characters, helped shape Jason’s character and transformed him from a cocky and broken boy to a man of words and actions. Just so beautiful. I cried several times throughout the whole book. And the author has such engaging voice that made me feel like I’m watching a movie in my mind. This is just beyond incredible. Even though at the beginning of the book, Joshua Medcalf recommended to read Chop Woods Carry Water first which is also another phenomenal book of his, I don’t necessarily agree because both of them are absolutely worth it and thus the order of the books wouldn’t really make anything less than perfect. I’m just so excited to share this book with my friends and family. Amazing amazing! Good job Joshua. I can wait to finish other books you wrote. Thanks a million!!!

Fantastic lessons for life

This book was phenomenal in my opinion. It’s unique way to tell a story while giving valuable life lessons really spoke to me especially because I struggle with some of the very things that Jason (the main character) did. I really enjoyed this book and will listen to it many times to remind myself to “pound the stone” and trust the process!

Good Message but lots of Borrowed Content

If you're looking for a good parable with lots of good lessons in it, this would be a good read but not a lot of original subject matter. A lot of the content is borrowed from other popular titles like G.R.I.T., Legacy or recycled from Chop Wood, Carry Water. The Pound the Stone premise is taken from Greg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs' Pound the Rock philosophy. The "TD" character is supposed to allude to Tim Duncan without actually getting permission to use the name. If you've read a lot of the popular titles in the field of leadership then you can skip this one. If you haven't, then it's worth the time.
