Publisher's summary

Jeremiah McKinley is the first of his enlisted brothers to return home to River Rock, Missouri - their sleepy but charming hometown in the Ozarks - in the wake of their father's death in combat. While he's grateful to be home with his sister nearby, his grief over losing the man known as Major Mack proves almost overwhelming, especially without his brothers around.

After years of guilt and tireless effort, Mary Grace "Gray" Smith finally has her life on track. The last person she wants to see is Jeremiah: her former best friend, former crush, and the man who could easily destroy the one thing she holds most dear. But after one of Jeremiah's brothers returns home with a head injury, Gray becomes his therapist - and a long-kept secret threatens to reveal itself and alter the course of several lives forever. Could this secret also give Jeremiah and Gray the chance to finally have the future together they always longed for?

Romance

Great sequel with a more romantic thread to this story and a totally different problem. Loved the cameo performances by the artists colony residents from the first book. Great characters. I cared about them all. Very well paced plot and great imagery. Highly recommend.

Good til end

I consider myself a faithful Christian but...The writing, characters and plot were deeply engrossing, until last two chapters ruined it for me. It repeated "Eye of God" just too many times, so that it interrupted the bubble the author had created. It really took away from the story for me.

Any additional comments?

It is rare when you come across an author that is able to take a hold of your heart within a few words Heather Burch does that every time I read one of her beautiful reads add Amy voice and you have a brilliant story. Her story line is sweet and pure so filled with love and the hardships that come with building a life with another and the grown one has to do to become whom they are supposed to be apart and together. In Down the Hidden Path the story line is built around a young woman who has loved one man her entire life. It is about the choices they both made as young adults and about how if we allow life not to get in the way how it can create something so beautiful. It is also about the love of one brother to another. Love it. Look forward to the next installment.

Loved it!

It's rare that a book so thoroughly draws me in like this one did. Rarely do I run the gamut of emotions that this story brought. I enjoyed this book so very much, and would highly recommend it. The narrator was excellent as well.

Wonderful story!

This is the third book by Heather Burch I have read. I have many more of hers ready to go. She is a very talented author! The narrator Amy McFadden is one of my favorites for sure.
The only negatives I have about this story are the nick names Heather has given Jeremiah and Mary Grace! I hate that she calls Jeremiah, Maya, I have two good woman, friends, named Maya, every time I heard that name, even till the very end of the book I had to stop and think who in the heck is that!?
Then to call Mary Grace Gray?! Such a wonderful lady with a beautiful name, and call her gray, yikes! Awful had to stop and think every time about that one too.
