Publisher's Summary

Can a stack of long-hidden love letters from a WWII war hero inspire a heartbroken woman to love again?

Reeling from a bitter divorce, Adrienne Carter abandons Chicago and retreats to the sun, sand, and beauty of Southern Florida, throwing herself into the restoration of a dilapidated old Victorian beach house. Early into the renovations, she discovers a tin box hidden away in the attic that reveals the emotional letters from a WWII paratrooper to a young woman who lived in the house more than a half-century earlier.

The old letters - incredibly poetic and romantic - transcend time, and they arouse in Adrienne a curiosity that leads her to track down the writer of the letters. William "Pops" Bryant is now an old man living in a nearby town with his handsome but overprotective grandson, Will. As Adrienne begins to unravel the secrets of the letters (and the Bryants), she finds herself not yet willing to give up entirely on love.

Beautiful Old Fashioned Romance

I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent book. It is so refreshing to find a modern author that does not have to rely on bad language, violence, or steamy sex scenes to carry the story along.
The plot concerns a young woman who finds a box of old love letters when she is renovating an old house .Intrigued by the letters she sets out to find the author,a WW2 veteran living in a nearby town with his devoted handsome grandson .The book is full of likable characters and believable situations all set in a delightful beach town in Florida.

The narration was first rate and I will certainly look for more books by this author.
Thanks Audible for making this available.

A Frustrating Tale--Really a Fairy Tale

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I probably wouldn't recommend this book. I found it very frustrating, and, in the end, quite a shaggy dog story. Just when you thought nothing else could throw a wrench into the story, along it came. Toward the end I found myself yelling, "Don't do it! Just back away." I think research shows that abusive behavior repeats itself, and often women who have been in abusive relationships often continue in them. It would be the rare case when abusive behavior can be changed in such a seemingly simple turn as Will's was. I fear Adrian is in for a similar experience as in her first marriage. The epilogue just makes it a fairy tale, in my mind.

What about Emily Sutton-Smith’s performance did you like?

She was able to capture the variety of voices and the related emotions

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I wouldn't promote this story.

Letters tell the story

One Lavender Ribbon is an easy book to listen to. The narrator is pleasant and handles different voices well. The story is a romantic fiction, involving several characters whose lives and lies have woven them together in a typical romantic fiction style. I liked the story, the twists of storyline and the resolution.

Emotional Lump

What made the experience of listening to One Lavender Ribbon the most enjoyable?

The historical significance combined with the wonderfully flawed and loving characters. I couldn't stop listening. I thought the book would be sappy based on the title, and I'm so glad I gave it a chance after sitting on my "wish list" for so long. I've recommended it to everyone I can think of. I just adored this book and rank it with "The Notebook" as far as being a book that gets under your skin and touches you in unexpected ways. I hated that it ended!

Nostalgic, Sweet, All You'd Want from Love

Seldom do I want to listen to a love story . . . no, I take that back . . . I'd LOVE to listen to a real love story . . . not a bunch of twisting under the covers . . . and guess what? One Lavender Ribbon is a real love story . . . and what a pleasure and joy it was . . . the tale of a soldier's letters to his sweetheart during WWII . . . and the love that sustained him in battle, day in and day out, gave him the will to survive, after seeing his comrades struck down . . . and the young woman, Adrienne, who bought the old house and finds the long ago written letters tucked away in her attic . . . and begins to read . . . the more she reads, the more she wants to know the man who wrote the letters . . . is he still alive? Her search leads her to William Bryant (Pops) now 80 years old, living with his grandson . . . the days and months that follow, as they share the contents of the long lost letters, are both touching and volatile, as Adrienne and Will both try to love and protect Pops, each in their own way. Pops, though, is much wiser and stronger than they give him credit for. And he is the true hero . . . One Lavender Ribbon is a love story of the best kind, of enduring love, of family love, of generational love . . . not a tale of lust . . . it is a tale of growing, natural attraction between a man and a woman, of learning about one another's feelings, how to care for one another, honor one another, it's a beautiful story . . . the kind of you wouldn't be ashamed to listen to with your daughter or granddaughter . . . and shouldn't all genuine love stories be just that way?

Very weak

The chapters were well developed and the premise was interesting. The reader was exceptional. But the plot of this book was very thin making it so boring! I stuck with it thinking that it would rise above the predictable but it never did.

Repetitive but good storyline

I found this book gripping but overly descriptive. Sometimes I found myself rolling my eyes at the same words being used over and over.

True romance story

This book is a charming love story laced with history. I read many reviews that give away the story line. All I'm going to say is this story has twists and turns. It both happy and sad in parts and it takes you on an emotional journey of two separate couple separated by a generation.
