Publisher's summary

The fascinating never-before-told-in-full story of personal reinvention grounded in musical salvation and fatherhood.

Travis Barker's soul-baring memoir chronicles the highlights and lowlights of the renowned drummer's art and his life, including the harrowing plane crash that nearly killed him and his traumatic road to recovery. After breaking out as the acclaimed drummer of the multiplatinum punk band Blink-182, everything changed for Travis Barker. But the dark side of rock stardom took its toll: His marriage, chronicled for an MTV reality show, fell apart. Constant touring concealed a serious drug addiction. A reckoning did not truly come until he was forced to face mortality: His life nearly ended in a horrifying plane crash, and then his close friend, collaborator, and fellow crash survivor, DJ AM, died of an overdose.

In this blunt, driving memoir, Barker ruminates on rock stardom, fatherhood, death, loss, and redemption, sharing stories shaped by decades' worth of hard-earned insights. His pulsating memoir is as energetic as his acclaimed beats. It brings to a close the first chapters of a well-lived life, inspiring listeners to follow the rhythms of their own hearts and find meaning in their lives.

Just wow

Was hoping it was read by Barker himself…. Seems more truthful but I see why
He didn’t.
I mean I knew he was crazy and completely sex, drugs and rock n roll but as I read I just kept
Thinking “no way is this real”. How can someone that was such an absolute
Dick to women be so damn love able at the same
Time? One minute I’m thinking this guy was a
Such an asshat
The next he’s like the greatest friend you want to have. I see he has a 15 yo daughter.. karma may just come
Calling.
For a guy who seemingly is averse to Hollywood glitz and fakery he sure as hell seems to seek those plastic types out for long term relationships.
Definitely entertaining

Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover

Prior to this book, I was only familiar with Travis' exterior facade and publicized antics. But now feel inspired by his colorful road to maturity, dedication to family and his arts.

Narrator Cary Hite has a beautiful voice. Only room for improvement was confusion at times knowing who was "speaking". Cary doesn't use variety between guest quotes and when he is returning to Travis' voice.

Overall- great book!

Good stuff

I didn’t know the story behind Adam’s Song or the Jack and Sally reference til I listened to this . I also didn’t really know about anything other than some of the music Travis Barker was apart of until I listened to this. If you’re a musician, I recommend listening to this, because it’s true, you really don’t need to be the best who ever did it, but you should be the best you can do at doing it and keep working towards that . I definitely related to a bunch of stuff.

Great Content, but disjointed, & terrible narration

I am a huge fan of Travis & all he has done through the years so I really loved all the backstory & behind the scenes things we never knew about. He is very raw & real in what he shares which was awesome. The timeline jumped around so at times it wasn’t clear what was happening when sometimes, again great content, not always great flow. But for me the narrator was tough. He mispronounced a lot of words & just his tone & timber were not enjoyable to listen to. Usually I would listen to a book like this unless it was the author reading it, but because I love Travis I gave it a shot & was disappointed. This would have been so much better had Travis narrated it himself

Very interesting

Just a random pick for me. Thought it was awesome and cool how others contributed to the story.

Awesome audio book

Very interesting past life Travis has had and where he is now says a lot. Love how much he loves his friends and family. I lost my best friend in high school so that part about him losing little Chris hit home.
