Horrible

I usually don’t write reviews but I have to in this case. This is shallOw, yet pretentious and self~serving. The author bills it as traveling “alone” to grow lol. She is on her phone and text the whole time, as well as cramming her days with pointless “romantic” and party encounters with people she has known a matter of days. She is allegedly so distraught over being dumped by a man who claimed to “love” her after 6 weeks, who she gets involved with 2 weeks after leaving her husband. She whines about it constantly. The man in question appears to be bipolar and none of his actions are about her ~ yet this possibility never occurs to her. There are no moments of beautiful writing, of being in the moment, or of being “with” herself. The author is lost. One of the worst, most uninspired books I’ve ever read/ listened to.

Wanted to love this.

I never leave reviews but this book was painful to get through. Each chapter was repetitive. Girl travels to new country, girl meets strangers & gets drunk with them & has intense feelings for one of them & then sleeps with them. Every. Freaking. Chapter. I kept hoping it would get better and that the ending would be worth the painstaking read. Not at all. The beginning was my favorite part. Relatable, raw and has this strong essence of girl power and women independence. But the other 75% was a huge eye roll. It was also very hard to listen to her voice.

Title is best part of the book

The story of an actress married to a cheating husband who then immediately falls in love with another man who wakes up one morning no longer in love with her. The book is not a journey of self-discovery. It’s her telling every how she was hurt. She makes lots of stupid decisions but doesn’t ever realize her role in anything. It is all done to her. There are no moments of discovery. And if I hear “thought onion” again in my life I just might scream.

The mindless ramblings of a self indulgent Cali girl

The only reason the performance got 2 stars is because I like when the author also narrates. This book is awful all the way around. You know that friend you have that insists on rehashing, verbatim, every minute detail of every argument she has with her S.O.; desperately grasping for your validation that her victim mentality is indeed warranted? Yeah... that’s the author. You know that friend that thinks everyone wants to hear every about single word that is spoken between her and her love interest (text messages included), so she can prove to the world that she IS worthy and lovable and you should definitely be jealous? Yeah... also the author.
I’m maybe 2-3 hours into listening to this book and I am exchanging it today. I thought it might get better, but I’ve given up hope. It’s nothing but the author trying to convince the listener of her victimhood and strength simultaneously; while also reading text conversation after text conversation, sprinkling a flirty giggle (and the f bomb) in every now and then. Ugh... I just can’t.

By biggest regret in life is hearing this book

She is basically just reading from a diary with poor vocabulary. She gives you the play-by-play of every conversation she has with every person she meets. Every other word is a swear word. I'm realizing "a journey of self-discovery" means there's no plot. I was hoping this book would be about traveling Europe by yourself but it turned into stories about drinking and sleeping with multiple men while being mad that her greif-stricken boyfriend needs time alone. And the moral of the story was "love yourself." This person should not have the title of "best-selling author next to their name.

Shallow

Horrible. Selfish. Self centered. Privileged California girl whines through the entire book about her shitty decisions and why guys just want to have sex with her and not want a relationship. Shallow and a huge waste of time.

I couldn’t get though it, mindless fluff

If you want some mindless fluff...might work for you. I just got bored, story is just a bit overdone.

whiney AF

omg. this is the worst. maybe I am not her audience but she did nothing interesting. the author repeated the same garbage throughout the book - poor me, I am unable to fuction because a man hurt me. ugh.
it all came across as a teenager just learning about life. coming from an adult, it was just sad.

The ALL TIME WORST

This was actually painful to my ears, in every way possible, the story, her voice, the overly self absorbed obvious self adoration in the most obnoxious way! Not only do I say “don’t waste your money” I would say “don’t even read it if it was given to you for free” it is actually that painful. The only reason I made it through is because I one of those nut cases that if I buy it I feel like I owe it to myself to start and finish it. Ugh...HORRIBLE.

Insufferable

I could state a hundred things but the only thing worth typing is: this book gives me hope that I too can write a bestseller.

This book is disappointing, she is transphobic

Started listening, her experience in Europe is so Ill informed. She clearly spent zero time actually learning about the cultures she was experiencing, specifically the sex workers in Amsterdam. She using really transphobic language 'fucking dude'. I had to stop listening.

'literally' the worst storyline.

If you take a drink everytime Stone says the world 'literally' it will make for a much happier listen.

Absolutely loved this!

This book is amazing. It felt so relatable even though our experiences are very different. The writing, narration, story telling and humor were brilliant. I loved some of the concepts she used to understand herself better, namely the thought onion. Ive had some of my own realisations regarding the breakdown of my own marriage. I will most definitely be listening to this again

Vapid woman tells terribly boring holiday story

This is the worst book I’ve never finished.
The author isn’t a writer but that shouldn’t excuse a ghost writer or getting help with writing a book.
She tells her story of her holiday hour by hour and reads out cringe worth text messages line by like and offer a no real touching details or self awareness.
It’s all very much an ego stroke to herself with little like ability. Especially when she’s fat phobic, transphobic and uses questionable phrases to describe the men she typically fantasises.
She likes to remind us she’s getting compliments from strangers left right and centre, and that people are so struck by her followers and blue tick on Instagram. Her privilege is next level and never addressed but the whole book reeks of it. Honestly not worth your money or time.

Shallow and annoying

I feel like I listened through this book just so I could write a review to warn others not to bother. I'm sure the author (if we can call her that) is a sweet person, but she needs to get better at "show, don't tell" if she wants to write another book. This felt like a lazy attempt at writing from someone who doesn't read much and just wants to show us her diary. All this "wow, you're so brave, your story is so unique" felt shallow and poorly executed. This is not a book about self discovery and self love, this is about a girl who goes on a trip to every major city in Europe and partied every night. I could not tell one place from the other. There wasn't even an attempt to do anything cultural (not that you have to do those things while on vacation, but mentioning something interesting about each city would have been nice). And she has a hangup on this guy who is an ass to her the entire time. I thought this was going to be more of a deep dive for someone actually trying to heal from a broken marriage and the loss of her father. But no.

funny, uplifting, courageous and emotional. love been on her journey and looking forward to the sequel!

You just need to listen!

This book is inspirational. I have never been so hooked on a book before. Truly incredible, and life changing for me at least. I will for sure miss Gabrielles voice every morning, she feels almost like a new best friends who shared her secrets and life with us. I can't wait for the next one 💗

Hit the road of soul-searching to find self-love!

I couldn't stop listening to this adventure book until the very end. I thought to myself what a beautiful love story of self-love!..

This book is full of travels and colors, enthusiasm and humor, emancipation and sex, emotions and freedom, spirituality and depth, sincerity and love. The book will appeal to both single and married. The author herself narrates her story. I would especially note the intonation and emotionality of the reading, where the listener, like a close friend, lives through every incredible day with the author!

Wouldn't pass the Bechdel test

I was hoping for a story of travel, soul searching and self love but what I got was a boring, self absorbed tale of meeting men in clubs and being complemented by absolutely everyone. The only lesson that seemed to be learned was that she can eat in a restaurant by herself. The whole thing was so vapid and shallow, completely missed an opportunity to write about travel and only described snippets of different cities as "beautiful". A teenagers holiday diary.

Loved it!

Really loved this. Funny, heartbreaking and entertaining. Was even better as it was narrated by the author so you get a genuine connection to every story and feeling that she tells.
