Publisher's Summary

Now a Netflix original movie starring Machine Gun Kelly, Daniel Webber, Douglas Booth, and Iwan Rheon, directed by Jeff Tremaine.

Celebrate over 30 years of the world's most notorious rock band with the audiobook edition of The Dirt - the outrageous, legendary, no-holds-barred autobiography of Mötley Crüe.

Fans have gotten glimpses into the band's crazy world of backstage scandals, celebrity love affairs, roller-coaster drug addictions, and immortal music in Mötley Crüe books like Tommyland and The Heroin Diaries, but now the full spectrum of sin and success by Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil, and Mick Mars is an open book in The Dirt

Joe Levy at Rolling Stone calls The Dirt "without a doubt...the most detailed account of the awesome pleasures and perils of rock & roll stardom I have ever read. It is completely compelling and utterly revolting."

1000x more detail than the movie

*The movie was a sample of Crue info so please, do yourself a solid and actually read/listen to the book.
Just a heads up, it is raw and some pretty serious stuff happens in the book. Detailed drug use, admitted rape, death, violence amongst men and women, etc.
I read this book like 10 years ago but I wanted to listen to it as I have issues with reading comprehension and I skip stuff without realizing it. Even if you read it and don't have learning issues like myself, I still recommend it again. While it isn't their voices on the book, they did a pretty good job picking good narrators.

The reader did a good job in the Skylar chapter and Tommy's narrator did really well with Tommy's jail chapter. They were able to channel the guys pretty well.

If you are a Crue fan or even if not, it is a really good book. My only qualm is that there isn't much Mick in it. But Mick is a quite guy so I am not surprised that there isn't a ton.
All in all, I love it and glad I got the audiobook

Entertaining but...

The book is entertaining but so much of it is crap. These scrawny punks wish they were as tough as they claim in their stories. I was around LA often during many of the events they speak of and these "tuff guy badass" fights they brag about never went down the way their story says. These dudes acted tough but got their asses kicked often by dudes that were and are still a million times tougher. The more I hear from Nikki Sixx the more I realize he is a legend in his own mind. The books good as a work of heavily embellished fiction

Crazy and Disturbing.

I have been listening to Motley Crue since they came out in the late 80s and have seen them three times in concert. I watched the movie on Netflix and couldn't wait to listen to the book. The book gave an interesting insite into their childhood and adult lives as well as that of the band BUT I have to say that I was disturbed by some of the stories. An unreported rape was mentioned - seriously WTF. And Vince Neil only did 20 days in jail for vehicular manslaughter not to mention the passengers of the other car suffered severe injuries. I'll give them 5 stars for honesty.

poor me poor me,, its a disease

unreal to hear such whining from druggies, women beaters, thieves, crooks, and a murderer ! three self centered ego driven clowns and a great guitar player they abused. they could have been so much more. but let ego get in the way. they should have gotten more hugs and participation trophies as kids!

Excellent

At first I have to admit I wish it would have been narrated by the band themselves but the chosen narrators did an excellent job! I will definitely be listening again!!

These guys are such babies.

It got an extra star because I couldn't stop listening to it. It is juicy. But it's mostly listening to these guys justify their behavior. My favorite line is from Tommy Lee: "I could have never imagined that night when we stared in each other's eyes at Señor Frogs, that it would turn out like this."

Couldn't put it down

I really liked the story and the format of the book. It was different, in that the story is told. You hear each band members point of view and recollection of various memories.
Narrators were great, you could tell there were four different voices but they did sound very similar. I kept looking at the chapter name to see whose point of view I was listening to. If I had my wish, I'd choose more distinct voices.
I've never seen the show and not a big Motley Crüe fan BUT I really enjoyed this book and finished it in 3 days. It was hard to put down/away.
Now I'm going to watch the show and probably hate it...haha

Amazing Story!

The story of Motley Crue was gross, uncensored, and awesome! The way this book was laid out and great work of the narrators, it really brought the story to life. I was initially daunted by the length of the book, but I was left wanting more. This is a MUST read!!

What a badass story of truth, rebellion, & LOVE

I absolutely loved this fucking book. I grew up head over heels in love with this band. I never cared about the bad shit the media reported bc I chose to love them unconditionally for who they were. My life story is not much difference then theirs except I am a chic and I had a big part of all 4 of them rolled into 1 life. I thank all for of you for your brutal honesty of what your life was like and each one of you grew in spite of and still remain to be you and do what you love to do. Kudos to all of you. And I really hope you guys make it to St. Louis on your 2020 tour bc if u do I will be the middle age rocker chic with her rocker looking old man rubbing her ass up on him dancing the entire show singing louder than any one else and taking him home banging until the sun comes like with crazy Motley fantasies in my head and knowing I just watched the best rock n roll band in history again for the umpteenth time.

The Dirt

Not even sure why I bought this book. I've never listened to any of their music, but had heard of the band and Tommy Lee, so thought it might be an interesting listen.

The story from start to finish was absolutely compelling and an incredible insight into the background of the band members and their rock and roll lifestyle. The decadence and drug taking along with other outrageous behaviour makes this such an incredible listen.

I'm pretty open minded about life and I was often shocked by how crazy these guys were.

Hope you enjoy the listen and buckle up for the ride!

Whiny bunch of self centered tools

What a bunch of self centered tools. Arrogance in an audiobook. They really are still as deluded as they were back in the day. Almost to a comical level. At least Spinal Tap was meant to be a parody. I don't think these morons got that.

Entertaining parts but repetitive

There were definitely entertaining parts but by the end, it was still just four or five egotistical boys, some of whom had grown up a little. By the last 1/4 of the book, I was bored and ready to stop reading; I sped up the audio to get through it. Tommy’s feeble attempt to elicit sympathy fell on deaf ears; he was put in jail a couple of times and his relationship with Pam deteriorated of his own poor behaviour, blind to it as he was.

By the third chapter, the lofty chapter titles only annoyed me.

I've never been a musical fan of Mötley Crüe. Perhaps if I was, I would have seen the book with different eyes; but it got a bit repetitive with time after time of self-destructive, selfish behaviour with little to no remorse for the wake of people they left behind in their destructive path.

I really liked this book

A truely in-depth look at the motley Crüe lads and their lives. A couple of sad moments especially with Vince’s little 4 year old daughter, that was very hard to listen too. These fellas have definitely had their fair share of ups and downs and I must say a lot of the downs were self inflicted that’s for sure, how their still alive especially Nikki is beyond me,but that’s the life of some Rockstars I guess. I’ve got nothing bad to say about this book, either you like it or you don’t and I liked it.

Amazing

A wild story that comes full circle and will make you think about life, spirituality and more. This book has some crazy stories none of which I doubt for second. The book is really well written, you will laugh and you will cry. Well done Neil Strauss and Motley Crüe. Thank you for the tales gentlemen.

Hands down the best rock autobiography

Finished this whole audiobook in just a few days. The story was amazing and every chapter leaves you itching for the next.

The narrators are so on point you sometimes forget it’s not actually the Crüe who are speaking.

This journey covers the highest of highs and lowest of lows in intricate detail.

Even if you are not a huge Motley Crüe fan, this is still a kick ass listen

Great story and very entertaining

Quite a dynamic book as it goes from one perspective to another on the same period of time. Sheds heaps of light onto the power of addiction and how people can battle their entire lives fighting the urge to use and what that can look like. Awesome stories and a great look at what goes on behind the stage. Well worth listening to, especially if you've seen 'The Dirt' movie version.

A wild, fun & sometimes disgusting ride

A brutally honest insight into what their lives & struggles were, not leaving out any of "the dirt". I really enjoyed that they even had chapters from ex managers and label heads giving them a chance to have a rebuttal on some of the accusations the band made against them. The narrators did a great job making you feel like you were just listening to the band talk to to you.
even if you don't know much of their music it's still a fun read.
