Publisher's summary

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER with 5+ hours of bonus material not found in the print version and read by Leslie Jones. AudioFile Magazine awarded the recording an ‘Earphones Award’, saying: “No listener can leave this memoir unaffected as Jones laughs and sobs, sharing the highs and lows, joys and sorrows of her full life.”

Hey you guys, it’s Leslie. I’m excited to share my story with you.

Now, I’m gonna be honest: Some of the details might be vague because a b*tch is fifty-five and she’s smoked a ton of weed. But while bits might be a touch hazy, I can promise you the underlying truth is REAL. Whether I’m talking about my childhood growing up in the South, my early stand-up days driving from gig to gig through the darkest parts of our country and praying I wouldn’t get murdered, what Chris Rock told Lorne Michaels, that time I wanted to shoot Whoopi Goldberg on SNL, and yeah, I’ll tell you all about Ghostbusters and the nudes and Supermarket Sweep and The Daily Show . . . I’m sharing it all here. It’s not easy being a woman in comedy, especially when you’re a tall-*ss Black woman with a trumpet voice. I have to fight so that no one takes me for granted, and no one takes advantage. These are the stories that explain why. (Cue the Law & Order theme.)

A unique memoir

I adore comedian memoirs, and this is the most unique ones I’ve listened to. If Leslie is reading from a book, she is likely only using it as a reference, and instead seems to be speaking her story to you as if this were a conversation. The effect is really lovely and personal. This is an emotional, honest, and touching performance. Such fantastic work.

it was like listening to stand up

I truly enjoyed most of this memoir..she was honest, vulnerable, funny. Getting past the language was not difficult for me, but was something I had to do to be able to truly listen and learn, because her story is also educational, which was surprising!

You will find something to laugh, cry and empathize over.

This book contains very moving messages of beauty, and self-love that everyone should know.

I was always a fan, but now I admire Leslie Jones on a whole separate level.

Layered, life-filled, hilarious, lovely Leslie!

In today’s ageist culture, it’s refreshing to hear the journey of a seasoned comedy veteran. Her athlete mindset is one we can all benefit from. “We’ll get um next time.” I really felt she gave the audiobook an extra pizzazz.

It’s like she’s not reading it

It’s like she’s retelling the stories to you without reading from the book and laughing along

So Raw & Authetic

This book is a must, it is so real and all of her retelling makes you feel like you’re there with her. You’ll cry when she cries and feel all of her losses just as much as her wins. Definitely recommend if you need some uplifting and motivation to better yourself and pursue your dreams.

Hard lessons and great joy.

This audio book is remarkably different from the book. This is mostly due to how contagious Leslie’s emotions become! When she laughs you laugh harder. When she gets choked up, you weep! She shares her joy (and her struggles) with candor and gargantuan feeling!

Amazing All Around

This is probably one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to. The uncensored, raw, genuine emotion was powerful, and I felt like I was sitting and talking to an old friend about old times. I listened because I am a huge SNL and the 2016 Ghostbusters fan, but I enjoyed it far more than I expected it to. Anyone who has ever experienced complicated grief would likely find this helpful.

An undeniable hit

If colorful language bothers you, then this book will not be for you. If that doesn’t bother you, then you will be laughing, crying, learning and loving Leslie Jones on a whole new level. She does not hold back and we are all better for it.
