Publisher's summary

How to Get Hitched (And Stay Hitched) is a 12-step program that liberates women from the lies they’ve absorbed about men and marriage and offers a new, foolproof roadmap for navigating life and love.

Degree? Check.
Career? Yup.
Money? In the bank.
Marriage?

America is single. It's divorced, under committed, and hopelessly out of touch with how to build a relationship that lasts. Women, in particular, are groomed for a life centered on career and on being fiercely independent - as though marriage and family were a nice idea, or a possible accompaniment, to an otherwise satisfying life.

But if flying solo is so great, why are online dating sites a billion-dollar industry, replete with clients looking to get hitched?

In How to Get Hitched (And Stay Hitched), author and marriage coach Suzanne Venker claims women need a detox from the bogus cultural narratives they've absorbed about men, sex, marriage, work and family. If you're a woman who wants a successful love life (not just a successful professional life), you're going to need a brand new roadmap. And now you have one.

Here is just a sampling of the 12 steps:

  • Get over yourself
  • Find your feminine
  • Get a ring, not a roommate
  • Marry the accountant, not the artist
  • Know your body

A call to arms, How to Get Hitched (And Stay Hitched) will ignite a much-needed debate about the misplaced priorities of the modern generation. It is the antidote women need to reject the lies they've been fed by our culture so they can build the happy, balanced lives they crave.

"You have massively impacted the way I see and deal with men. Because of you, I started dating with a clear goal in mind (marriage and children) and also with discipline. At 25, this led me to my now boyfriend who soon will be my fiancé, husband, and hopefully father of my children. Thank you from the bottom of my soul for the enlightening and truthful work that you share with the world!"

"The world and my own mother haven't spoken to me about any of this. Schools and the media taught me that career comes first and that I would be happy even without getting married and not having children. I thought what I was feeling wasn't quite normal until I found your work. Thank you sooo much, Suzanne!" (Lily from Australia)

"I love sharing Suzanne with jaded lonely girlfriends, lol." (Annie)

This is a power tool for women!

I will let Suzanne Venker's own words serve as a review as to why this book needs to be read on Kindle, listened to on Audiobook, and a hard copy needs to be in the hime as a reference manual!

"If you want love to last, you need to learn a man's language. The words you speak to him, and just as importantly, the way you speak them to him, will either breath life into a man, or they will cut him to the core. That's the power you have as a woman." Bong!

The honest truth we need about dating/marriage

As a millennial woman bordering gen Z, this book contains the realities of dating and marriage that I never got from my mentors growing up. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is facing hardships in their love life, wondering why isn’t working out…it starts with unlearning the cultural narratives we were steeped in. THANK YOU, Suzanne, for penning such bold truths to help women!!

Wonky title but listened anyway

While I ordered this audio book ASAP because it was from Suzanne, I must admit I delayed listening because I've been married 30 plus years and thought it would be better for the unmarried. However, I strongly suggest "listen on" for those that are unmarried, newly married, and those that been married for many years and need a reminder. Really good content! Suzanne brings words and examples to thoughts and feelings many of us find difficult (or socially mummed) to express. With all that said, my biggest compliment to her books and her podcast is to say I wish Suzanne and Bill were my neighbor. Cheers, Indiana Carl

An Elder Millennial’s Review

I will be recommending this book to all of my female friends and my two daughters. Even if you don’t, 100% agree with the advice, I think it’s better to have this perspective so that you can make informed decisions on your own.

I am an elder millennial so, I grew up in the era that Suzanne refers to— Post feminism. I won’t say that I 100% regret the choices that I’ve made in life because they have led me to where I am, and I’m in a very comfortable place. But I can see how this advice would have made my path - and the path of many other women – a little easier to get to.

If taken to heart, this book can give young women a roadmap to the life they want to live, instead of having them fumble through their early adulthood. I know this advice would’ve made my life a whole lot easier. Even though there are some things that I disagree with, there is much more common ground than not.
