Update needed - still many valuable insights

Though many of the important aspects of what Bolles has to say is timeless and important, his writing about using "the Yellow Pages" and what you should do if you are "not on the internet" devalue and distract and suggest an out of date approach. Further, his suggestions for specific websites does not take into consideration the highly dynamic nature of the web. A modernizing rehaul of the text is in order and the book would be improved with suggested search topics (rather than specific sites) and suggestions focused on apps and mobile devices (whatever they may be).

One size fits all

I am certain this is a very valuable book and look forward to completing Chapter 7 and 8. However my concern is that the book refers to so many sites and each one is $10, $20, $30.

A huge reference to bonus CD, why not add that to the print version?

I wish the author catered specific advise for those in their 50s, looking for a career change and how to deal with adversity.

Great content and clarity: buy the physical book.

The content itself is really good and expansive. Very to the point with lots of quantitative information on a lot of topics.

As an audiobook, it’s rough and I regretted getting in that format pretty quickly. For three reasons, he reads out loud slowly the URL for every website. It’s excruciating after awhile.
There are a lot of models and lists which is read to you in painful detail which just doesn’t do what a picture would do justice for.
You’ll also hear the phrase “this is found in the bonus CD” over and over again.

With all the visual models and list information, get the physical book (because you’ll also probably want to share it with others as it’s great content).

Practical and actionable

This audiobook provided a lot of insight to me during my job search. There are many exercises related to the Flower Exercise and self-inventory. I've gained a broader and deeper perspective of my career as a result of this book. Highly recommend!

That voice...

I had to return this audio book primarily because of the narration - listening to him reading out lists of websites complete with each, "double u, double u, double u, dot" was like fingernails on a chalkboard. He had a big, friendly voice but, to my ears, more suited to narrating a Disney animal movie.

The information in the book is fine but dated.

If you are looking for a job, this is the book that can really helps you.

Second time reading this book & helps give a path

This book is for people that want to find a job they love and want to get up for everyday.

I read this book the first time, and decided to make a career change. I went back to school to get more skills and change directions. After finishing school, I let a personal matter force me into another career I didn't want to do. I found this book again, and decided to re-read it and make that change.

I am in the process of making the change, but this book helps uncover pieces that you might not have realized you enjoy or could be a future career.

We all tend to just get a job, whatever comes along at the time. This book helps you find a career that you love, and you can start building a future at.

Boring...but good info

I imagine this would be better as a physical book...

If you are not great at the basics of job interviewing this book could be exceptional and a game changer for you. The information was solid advice...but very lack luster for me personally..too....basic?

What really killed it, was it was like listening to a robot read an encyclopedia.

Two basic, not for anyone looking for new insights for career changes

I had heard about this book and was excited to listen to it, it is a very long listen and I actually went through the whole thing, there were some decent nuggets of good information, but overall was very basic and most of the advice was obvious stuff that can be found by doing a simple internet search. In fact there are parts in which he talks about the internet as if it’s something new!! This book was written for 2018 with a 2008 (or older) mentality. Probably good for people that are old and have not needed to look for a job in 20 years, or for college students that are brand new to the workforce and are looking for an entry-level job, maybe. I don’t recommend this book if you already know how to do Internet job searches and are up-to-date with technology today
