In Strengths Based Leadership, number-one New York Times best-selling author Tom Rath and renowned leadership consultant Barry Conchie reveal the results of this research. Based on their discoveries, the book identifies three keys to being a more effective leader: knowing your strengths and investing in others' strengths, getting people with the right strengths on your team, and understanding and meeting the four basic needs of those who look to you for leadership.

Really wish the audiobook would have broken down each talent/strengths into individual chapters, instead of a run on chapter for half the book labeled “end Credits”. I will now have to keep notes of time stamps or purchase the hardcover to use as a quick reference for implementation of what is taught here.

Take the test first to identify your characteristics then you can focus on the ones that describe you instead of listening to all of them and wonder which apply.

Excellent book for Leaders

I could not stay focused with the way Tom Rath reads his material. It is very flat (monotone). and mechanical. I was very interested in hearing about this material and was so disappointed when it could not hold my interest. When Barry Conchie started to read his part it was much better but still not what I would call a good voice to read a book. The other thing that was disappointing was that the book is supposed to have a code to go on line and take an evaluation before going on to the second half of the book but with the audiobook I did not know how to get a code. Is there one with the audiobook?

Would you try another book from Tom Rath and/or Barry Conchie?

I would

What do you think your next listen will be?

Principle-Centered Leadership

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was fine. The majority of the book is really for reference related to the Strengths Finders assessment so there isn't much to the story. I wouldn't waste an audible credit on this book. I'd buy it in print though.

Do you think Strengths Based Leadership needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, while it's principles are still valid, the story is a little out of date. It would also be interesting to examine the companies that survived or failed during the most recent depression to see how their leadership structure compares to the book.

Wish I would have bought this in print instead

I like the overall admission of playing to individual team member strengths rather than focusing on their weaknesses

I also appreciated the long section at the end, talking about a number of different perspectives associated with different strengths. Listening to each one of them with individual people in mind is really helpful!

Very helpful for people who are already into Strength Finder thinking

Would you listen to Strengths Based Leadership again? Why?

I plan on listening to it as many times as it takes to own it's life changing, actionable, data driven methodology. I like when data demonstrates how well a product or idea delivers. I'm a busy person, time is the most precious. I would buy any book they publish. I love a great return on my investment. DD Vasseur.

What did you like best about this story?

It comes with one free online assessment analysis of your strengths. I love that the book gives real world examples of leadership styles in action. This is your leadership style and here is how this person used it successfully. It's so relevant & implementable.

I was looking for a way to refer back to the information in the book at anytime. Having this as an audiobook was helpful because I could set bookmarks and review the different strengthens again and again at my leisure.
