Publisher's Summary

While spacing out in Chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk, and added a message to her. Intrigue!

Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters - sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she's kind of falling for this letter writer. Only who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can't always be spelled out.

Kasie West brings irresistible wit, warmth, and sparkle to this swoon-worthy story of love showing up when you least expect it.

What the Critics Say

"There's much to like about this sweet love story. West allows the sworn enemies to reexamine themselves in a believable way; Lily considers that the person she becomes around her nemesis Cade is not her best self - and that the same could possibly be true for Cade." (School Library Journal)

    "could have been better."

it took a while for the main plot between the desk writers to build up. and it didn't really get my attention until around chapter 8. but once it got my attention it was easy to follow.

I'm just now really getting into books. I'm very auditory so I thought audio books would be better than physical copies. I'm also 17 yrs/o.

    "Amazing"

This is my first kasie west book and I was not disappointed. It was really good. All from the character build ups to the relationship. As being a 17 year old high school student myself; a lot of the things that happened at school in terms of miscommunication, drama, friendships hit home to me and that made it even better. Definetly worth the listen/read!!

I really liked this story but it feels unfinished. There was this whole build up for the contest and then we don't even find out if she choked or killed it on the stage.

    "so cute"

This whole story was so cute from start to finish. I really like those hate to love style of relationships. there is a part of me that is wishing for more on these two characters. the narration or narrator really brought the characters and story to life.

    "It was hard staying interested."

I read about 40% and the last few chapters.

I enjoyed other books by this author, but this book did nothing for me. It’s told in first person by Lily, a high school student. She wants to be a song writer. She writes something on the top of her chemistry desk (in pencil) and the next day she finds someone added to her note. They begin leaving notes for each other on paper - folded up and slid into a seam under the desk. Lily likes this guy but it’s a big mystery about who he is. At the end of the book she discovers who he is and there us a happy romantic ending. But some readers might think the ending was not complete regarding the relationship and a song writing contest Lily plans to enter.

I was bored being in Lily’s head. It’s just average everyday teenager thoughts about her best friend, different guys, and her cute relationship with her younger brothers. (She reads to her brother - I think that was my favorite part.) There was no interesting relationship development to tell a story about. Maybe it needed a more interesting main character.

    AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Shannon McManus did a good job, but she was not 100% in her interpretations of the writing. For example the author wrote something “said through gritted teeth.” But the narrator read it in a normal tone and not through gritted teeth.

BOOKS THAT I LIKED BY THIS AUTHOR:
The Distance Between Us, On The Fence, The Fill-In Boyfriend.

    DATA:
Narrative mode: 1st person. Unabridged audiobook length: 6 hrs and 56 mins. Swearing language: none that I recall. Sexual content: none in what I read. Setting: current day probably U.S. Book copyright: 2016. Genre: teen romance, YA.

Read this book and remember what it was like to fall in love for the first time. Beautiful story funny and well rounded characters. I read it twice back to back and listen to the audio book a week later. Loved it!
