Publisher's Summary

When Gia Montgomery's boyfriend, Bradley, dumps her in the parking lot of her high school prom, she decides to do the unthinkable...convince the cute guy waiting to pick up his sister to pretend to be her boyfriend for the night. The task is simple: two hours, zero commitment, a few white lies.

The problem is that days after prom, she can't stop thinking about her fill-in boyfriend. But can Gia turn her fake boyfriend into a real one without exposing her lie and possibly destroying her friendships and her newfound relationship?

Smartly observed and wonderfully romantic, Kasie West's talent shines in this tale of one girl's unexpected quest to find love...and possibly herself.

I <3 this book!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Fill-in Boyfriend to be better than the print version?

I have not read the the print edition - but I liked the book and in general I feel that the audio version just add a little something, and leave no confusion as to intonation or intent.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fill-in Boyfriend?

I really favored the evolving relationship between the lead character and the object of her desire's younger sister.

What does Shannon McManus bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She was an excellent choice to narrate this book, and she really brings a certain realness - a definite human element, and reinforces the youthfulness of the main character - and clarity to her emotions.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was a feel good story, you really wanted things to work out for the main character - and sometimes you wanted to shake her and ask her why some things were such a big deal.... I definitely felt a strong dislike for her "frienemy"

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth the listen! whether a credit or a purchase, I would definitely recommend this book:)

Great Author, Cute Story, Excellent Narration

This is cute and quirky, and I have become rather fond of this author. She writes characters who are flawed but lovable, and I enjoy that.

In this story, Gia's friends think she's lying about her very real college boyfriend, so when he breaks up with her in the parking lot at prom, she begs a stranger to be her fill-in boyfriend for just one night. She can't stand the idea that her friends think she's a liar, and she is fixated on proving them wrong. The problem is, when he fake breaks-up with her shortly after the charade begins, she kind of misses him. Romantic madness ensues.

Teen matures emotionally

Narrator is very good. I chose this book because I really liked another book by same author and same narrator. Fill-in Boyfriend is about a high school student body president, snobby and sticking to her clique, soon to graduate high school. The main weakness of the story is I did not have much sympathy for the main character. Also I did not relate to the southern California lifestyle, where teens drive their cars to school, party at the beach, and go out to lunch. But this is a good cautionary story about knowing who is really your friend and getting away from so-called friends who are not really.

My Favorite YA Romance So far

If you could sum up The Fill-in Boyfriend in three words, what would they be?

It was funny, authentic (given the YA universe) fast moving, interesting ... whew. Really nothing I didn't like about it. I liked that the heroine didn't have some massive, secret cross to bear, and that the hero wasn't a brooding, misunderstood caveman.

What did you like best about this story?

Shannon McManus. Love her work, and this hit all the right notes. Uncanny!

This book is great!

I absolutely loved this book! The only thing bad about is was the voice for Hayden. It didn't fit the picture I had for him, but I love the romance and drama and everything about this book!

Pleasantly surprised

I don't know what I was expecting, but what I got with this story was a tale riddled with fun geeky references, about a cast of characters I would enjoy as friends. Romance with a side of awkward.

Love the story!

I truly enjoyed this story! The narrator for audible is not one of my favorites, but she did a good job. Definitely worth the read (or listen)!
