Loved this Second Chance Summer Romance!

There is just something about a second chance romance that will always make me love them and this book delivers! It’s the perfect summer read and made me nostalgic for the innocence of love young and having a friend to spend every sun filled day together. And boy did this story bring the heartache and angst as well!

Sam and Percy met the summer they both turned 13, awkward teens needing a friend at the lake, and they quickly fell into the role of becoming each other’s best friend and then so much more as each summer ended over 6 years’ time. Yet their friendship and love ended 12 years ago, making my heart ache with anticipation of discovering what happened all those years ago to break Sam and Percy apart.

Told in past summers and present heartache, I loved watching Percy fall into young love with Sam, with each summer discovering more of themselves and each other. Sam is the kind of boy I could easily imagine falling in love with, caring, funny and attentive, he was the ultimate summer crush. From dock jumping, to skinny dipping to horror moving binging, these two had an undeniable bond and chemistry that made me swoon. And grown-up Sam was even better, through grief and heartache he put aside his own pain to re-kindle a friendship and maybe more with the woman who never let go of his heart. Did the twist crush my heart? Yes, it absolutely did, I’m not sure I’ve fully forgiven them yet, but it is a story that I can’t stop thinking about and I have the best book hangover after finishing.

I listened to this on audiobook and the narrator embodied Percy perfectly, from young awkward girl to a woman dealing with grief and looking for forgiveness. Do yourself a favor and grab this one!

Easy listen with a PG-13 rating

This is the first time I have experienced Carley Fortune's writing. And I will have to say, I will look forward to more from this author. The story was well told, didn't lag nor was drawn out, just a good story, great narrator and HEA. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good beach read this summer.

Hooked at the start

I saw this book recommended as a best summer read and it did not disappoint . I was interested at the start and could not put it down. Loved the characters and the past to present nature of the story. I laughed and cried. This will be a book I will listen to over and over. The narrator did a phenomenal job. One of the best I have ever heard.
