Publisher's summary

When a girl overhears a guy getting verbally destroyed by his friends for being catfished, she jumps in to save the day—and pretends to be his online crush. A young adult romance from the critically acclaimed author of Places We've Never Been.

Wren is used to being called a control freak. She doesn’t care; sticking to the list of rules she created for herself helps her navigate life. But when a cute guy named Asher walks through the door of her neighborhood coffee shop, the rulebook goes out the window.

Asher is cute, charming . . . and being catfished by his online crush. So Wren makes an uncharacteristically impulsive decision—she pretends to be the girl he's waiting for to save him from embarrassment. Suddenly she’s fake-dating a boy she knows nothing about. And it’s . . . amazing.

It's not long before Asher has her breaking even more of her own rules. But will he forgive her when he finds out she's not who she says she is? Wren's not so sure. . . . After all, rules exist for a reason.

Maybe I’m too old for this book.

I have liked many of this authors past books but this one I didn’t love. I still gave it a 4 because I’m not sure if this just isn’t right for me and if someone else may have found it more relatable.

Another great story

I always enjoy Kasie’s happy endings❣️ In this crazy, chaotic world in which we live, I like that I can escape and enjoy a pleasant outcome at the end of her stories❣️💕❤️

Super cute!

I really liked it! I’ve read a lot of Kasie West books so I was excited to see she had a new book!

The characters were lovable and relatable. I love that it’s not just a sappy love story. It has real problems like parents leaving, social media, ect. I also loved the pet parts of it.

Overall, it was a great read and encourage everyone to read it.

One of Kasie West’s Best!

A lot of love stories these days just have a perfect male character with little to no depth. I love that Kasie builds believable, flawed characters and manages to weave in a lot of them in each book. This one did not disappoint. I fell in love. I found the main character very relatable and lovable.

Nice Idea.. Could've Been Better

I'm really glad that I finally got to read the newest Kasie West book, she is an auto buy author for me and I can' gladly say I read most of her books (I've yet to read her fantasy duology) and this one was more enjoyable than her last two books :)
The story is about Wren who overhears a guy trying to humiliate his friend because he thinks he is being catfished by a girl he met online (which is true) so Wren tries to save him by pretending to be his date .. but the more Wren and Asher spend time together the more she throw her rules out of the window because what she is feeling with Asher is once in lifetime thing ..
I really want to experience Asher's hugs, they seem so good ..
as for the story, though I'm not an animal person in general I do like dogs (from afar) and the adventure was cute and nice .. so glad Kasie is still writing I generally enjoy her books as they put me in a good place

Least favorite of Katie West

This was the most simplistic, surface level romance that Katie has written. The main characters were bland. Wren would describe her personality instead of showing her personality. Asher’s bad choice is so anachronistic to his personality that it didn’t make sense. And his main friendship was just as perplexing. Overall messy and underwhelming. I recommend her amazing book, “By Your Side”.

Not good even for YA

This book is probably the author's worst yet, it reads like she wrote it while half asleep over a long weekend. The characters are two dimensional and largely unbelievable. The main lead spends the entire book talking about herself as some other person we never actually meet. Everything that she says about herself is not actually true based on her thoughts or her actions.
Shes devastated by what the male lead does to her but within 3 days she can't wait to see him? This part reads like a guide of how to be a victim of narcissistic abuse, "he hurt me so bad but I don't care!"
It's common for YA books to have an absurd premise to jumpstart the story, this book's storyline simply makes no sense.
Once you find out what the real situation is with the "catfish" it's impossible to see Asher and Dale as other than selfish, privileged jerks who only care about themselves.
This book is a mess, and what's with comparing the female lead to a dog? She's constantly saying "he's just like me, discerning."
