Publisher's Summary

The end begins with a viral outbreak unlike anything mankind has ever encountered before. The infected are subject to delirium, fever, a dramatic increase in violent behavior, and a one-hundred percent mortality rate. Death. But it doesn't end there. The victims return from death to walk the earth.

When a massive military operation fails to contain the plague of the living dead it escalates into a global pandemic. In one fell swoop, the necessities of life become much more basic. Gone are petty everyday concerns. Gone are the amenities of civilized life. Yet a single law of nature remains: Live, or die. Kill, or be killed. On one side of the world, a battle-hardened General surveys the remnants of his command: a young medic, a veteran photographer, a brash Private, and dozens of refugees, all are his responsibility-all thousands of miles from home. Back in the United States, an Army Colonel discovers the darker side of Morningstar virus and begins to collaborate with a well-known journalist to leak the information to the public...The Morningstar Saga has begun.

"Its like listening to a really bad zombie movie"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. Can we not learn to shoot the once killed infected in the head? I think they forgot to finish a infected with a brain shot around 3 or 4 times. for real. So in a scene you knew each time they killed a infected it would reanimate into a zombie... BUT OMG they forgot again. If simple minded writing bugs you do not bother with this book.So many of his scenes were such a cliche I had to stop the book and go do something else. I don't know maybe he intended it to be like that.

Would you ever listen to anything by Z. A. Recht again?

    Hell NO!

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The Narrator does a good job for the pile of crap that he was given. I think he captured what the author intended.

Could you see Plague of the Dead being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    GAWD I hope not.

    Any additional comments?

The Author could have done a little more research on how the Army works. He was so MESSED up on that. Generals talking to privates like it was normal and such. What a badword retard.

    "Not for me"
What disappointed you about Plague of the Dead?

zombie movies are better for me. I just wanted to give one a whirl and it just wasn'nt my thing.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I did like all the plague stats and such. I do like a little fact to go with my fiction. Even if it wasn't fact, it came off that way.

    "Wait. What? No way, really?"

Way too many inconsistencies in this book. While the action and drama were pretty good, the scenarios that set them up were unbelievable and distracting. Career military officers that don’t know a thing about tactics, strategy or planning, let alone how to run a military op. People needlessly exposing themselves to blood when they know the virus is blood borne. And, characters consistently choosing the really bad options, it’s a wonder any of these people survived long enough to make it to the second or third book. (Which, by the way don’t get any better - actually worse).

If you’re able to completely forgo logic and common sense and avoid thinking “what would I do” (because it wouldn’t be what the characters in this book do), you might enjoy the listen. Otherwise, the incongruities are really distracting and hard to stomach.

"Got bored, couldn't finish the book"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Wasn't what I expected. Seemed more like a war novel, which I don't care for

What was most disappointing about Z. A. Recht’s story?

    Just couldn't get into it,

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I don't think the issue was the narrator..

"Great Performance, Great Pace, Great Story"
What made the experience of listening to Plague of the Dead the most enjoyable?

The pacing was excellent, the characters where well detailed, in appearance and how they felt about things as well as their thoughts. The whole way through you are never sure who is going to make it through an encounter - it didn't feel predictable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kruger, unsure of spelling as its an audiobook!

What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?

His voices, how he remembered and kept them for every book in the Series. Very impressed.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed in quite a few scenes. No tears, there isn't a lot of grief in these books, more determination to survive.

    Any additional comments?

    Highly recommended.

    "Don't cough!!"
What did you love best about Plague of the Dead?

I love Zombie Apocalypse books and movies and this is a good one. It's not just one big Zombie munchfest, but has character stories that leave you wanting to know more about the people. I think the characters could have been way more developed and that would be the only weak area for me. The title says "Don't Cough". Read the book and you tell me why!

    Which scene was your favorite?

I love the part where Stiles is all alone doing recon and he stomps his boot on the floor and realizes the floor sounds hollow in some places in not in others. Then finds the door in the floor. What did he find? Not going to tell ya!! read it.

    Any additional comments?

It was pure entertainment and a great way to pass the day while I worked. There was some humor and I would occassionally laugh and my co-workers would look at me like I was nuts, but whatever, at least they leave me alone to listen to all the great books I find here. This book was a little slow starting. It picked up ithe pace as it went along and then it was over and I was wanting more. The reader is extraordinary!! His voices for each character were great and how he kept them all straight like was as entriqueing as the book itself.

Would you listen to Plague of the Dead again? Why?

An entertaining story and a great bit of narration.

On a side note: was anyone else cracking up at Brewster? He reminded me of Corp. Hicks from Aliens.

    "Good Story, Weak Characters"

I'm not sure if it was the weak character developement or maybe they were just so two dimensional and paper thin. I like the story, but there were times in it ....well lets just say the author didn't understand everything he was writing about. The characters didn't live up to their job titles. I listened to the book twice so it's not a total waste of a credit, I will most likely listen to the next book, after I am a story junkie. I love a story above all things, but do enjoy a good story with strong realistic characters.

    "Full of Suspense!"
Would you listen to Plague of the Dead again? Why?

Yes, This first installment kept me on the edge of my seat rooting for the good guys and cursing the bad guys!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Plague of the Dead?

That would be a spoiler! Can't do that!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and crie dthrough out the book. It is a rollercoaster when you get to know a character and then they are taken away by an infected. : (

    Any additional comments?

Can't wait to read the next one.
