Story
Six months ago, the world was plunged into chaos. The ImDED2 virus had been a mere nuisance for a decade. World powers were at a loss for a cure, but managed to keep isolated outbreaks from becoming a global pandemic. Until New Year’s Day of the year 2020. Just after midnight, the immuno-degenerative and epidermal decomposition virus (strain 2) exploded worldwide, subsuming humanity in a tsunami of blood and terror.

It's been three long years since Deadbreak. That's what everyone's calling it - the day the dead rose. Every day since then, Jeremiah Reid has had one goal: to make his way back to his daughter. With his four-legged companion, Joe, Jeremiah has to travel a lawless wasteland teeming with zombies, bandits, and worse, like people who put anchovies on pizza (you know who you are). It's a new world out there, and no one is safe. People are weary, cities are in ruin, supplies are scarce, and brains are on the menu.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. By: Brad Manuel
Publisher's Summary
For a decade now, the world has known of the existence of the immuno-degenerative and epidermal decomposition virus (strain two). The world governments and several civilian agencies have, so far, managed to keep the unimaginable from happening. They achieved it by keeping the outbreaks under control and preventing a global pandemic.
But even the best control measures seem to be falling short, as outbreaks become more frequent and larger in scale. Hundred percent of those infected with ImDED2 die. The problem is they don’t stay dead. The virus hijacks their bodies, turning them into insatiable, cannibalistic eating machines. Zombies.
Ryan Maxwell, a retired soldier, and his wife Victoria, a high school science teacher, have sacrificed for years to provide a good life for their family, but even the hardest working couple can run up against hard times.
However, a spur-of-the-moment purchase of a lottery ticket is about to change their lives forever. And possibly save them all.
Will the Maxwells be able to take advantage of their newfound wealth in time to form a buffer of safety between their family and friends and the possibility of a global zombie apocalypse? Is there enough money to buy safe passage in a world...after Z?

Even a zombie would struggle to swallow this tale
I like apocalyptic stories, but I do not like the stories themselves to be disasters. Spoilers ahead:
- All of the men (with few exceptions) are military bad-asses, ex-military, or incompetent bad guys.
- All the dogs are highly-trained bad-asses.
- Almost everyone who is not a military bad-ass has medical training, as do some of the military bad-asses. And of course, of all the people the survivors could have rescued first, they run across not one, but TWO doctors!
- The narrator, Mr Crow, speaks with a monotone and style that is more fitting of 1960s-era school instructional videos (you know the ones). I had to play this book at 1.3x speed just to stay awake. 2 stars simply because he actually did demonstrate inflection when voicing the females.
- Character development in the story is so lacking, the zombies flattened by a D9 dozer in the book had more depth than most of the uninfected.
- Oh, and did I mention the main character wins $1.5B and builds a state-of-the-art doomsday bunker that is better-equipped than the Death Star just before the apocalypse?
But hey, based on the ratings there seem to be plenty of listeners with different opinions. To each their own...

After Z..
So I have been on Audible for a while now, found that Zombie style apocalyptic novels are my favorite. My 1st Zombie book was Mark Tufos' Zombie Fallout after that it hasn't stopped. I stumbled onto After Z by chance and let me tell you THIS book was Amazing! Has a Different start to the ZVirus than any other book that I have enjoyed. If you looking for a book that is thrilling and funny with a bit of Zombies than grab After Z.

Brilliant!
After Z, definitely delivered, it met my highest expectations. I knew it would be great within the first few minutes, and I wasn't wrong. It's well-written with a unique and entertaining storyline that captures the attention and engages the readers/listeners from the very start to the end. The characters are well-developed, intriguing, and absolutely awesome.
A stellar performance by Matthew Crow's; he literally brought the characters and the story to life. All and all, After Z is an excellent zombie post-apocalyptic tale, and definitely worth the listen. I strongly recommend this audiobook.

Absolutely Awful
After Z is so awful, I don’t even know where to begin. I have read quite a few books in this genre and I would place this one near the very bottom. Not a fan of the narration, which starts off so stiff, the narrator pronounces every syllable of every word. Though the narration gets better, the story does not. There’s nothing remotely realistic about this story. There is almost no character development. It’s really just a fantasy about endless financial resources and gore. I’m embarrassed to have this in my collection and that I was so easily fooled by the reviews that I am now skeptical can actually be honest. This is just the worst. Stay away!

EMP, Zombies and fun characters. After Z is as good as gets !
I really enjoyed this audible book, I’m looking forward to answering-some questions I have in my head,. The hero is Ryan Maxwell , a solder home fighting with an assortment of characters that help get along. He has a preppier attitude that really blows up when his wife and he buy a lottery
and their lives change drastically , the biggest payout ever won, one billion dollars and change! They of course build the dream bunker any one could love. the story takes a fun ride building his dream . I was right there with them trying to tell him to do and not do!
It was fun. And I should mention., the world is recovering from a massive EMP and Zombies 10 years before. and another one is on it’s way.!
Loved the characters, love the way the author wrote a backstory for all the characters and we get to go along the ride! (Can’t wait for the second book.)

The perfect scenario for doomsday preppers
Definitely a decent book.
It's got a bit of the stomach turning gore, the mayhem and action, some very good times, some very bad times, a (fairly) believable story of zombie creation and a preppers fairytale set up.
It moves along nicely, and didnt drag anywhere so it held my interest all the way through.
Really well read too, which makes all the difference to the experience of listening

Zombie apocalypse done with style and snark!
This was a great take on the zombie apocalypse, zombies have been around a while and a lottery win that leads to a spectacular bunker/man cave, filled with the best toys! Ryan was a man with a plan, and some great one-liners that had me laughing, my favourite was "duct tape a zombie d0ggy-style to you" and "remember to let big d1ck out"! Matthew Crow was a really good narrator, I really hope theres going to be a book 2, I'll be watching for it.

What a awesome book J.S. Patrick did a great job with this story and I hook I can't wait to buy the next book in this series.
And with the voice acting talents and skills of Matthew Crow who's narration makes the characters and world come alive.
