Publisher's Summary

The North Koreans launch a surprise Nuclear EMP attack on the USA. Our hero, Joe doesn't care about politics or what happened, he just knows his world went to Hell. Planes fell out of the sky, people went nuts looting and killing as he scrambled to hide from all of the craziness.

Joe had a cabin and land in Southern Oregon when TSHTF and retreated to the cabin to survive the massive die-off that was always predicted for an apocalypse. The weeks before the Grid went down weren't much better for Joe because his best friend, his fiancé, and his beloved Grandma all died during the weeks leading up to lights out.

Joe was a young auto mechanic whose only stress in life was from a domineering girlfriend, and now he has to learn how to survive in a post-apocalyptic world without military or survival training.

To make matters worse, others look to him for support and guidance. Listen to American Survivor to find out how a regular guy survives in a post-apocalyptic world.

Great start to a new series.

This is the debut novel of a new apocalyptic survival series narrated by the talented, and my favorite, Kevin Pierce. The relationship between the characters and their individual growing pains are a large part of the story. Joe had been raised to protect women and children. He found that in this new world his sometimes overbearing protection was not always appreciated. Joe was a good man, but he had a few things to learn which he had never considered. Another sub-plot involves what appear to be Middle Eastern terrorists making their way through the territory leaving a trail of dead bodies. What they are doing in the middle of Oregon is a mystery. The character development is excellent and I became quite fond of Joe, Coby and Chloe. This is a great start and I need book two! A realistic dystopian novel

It was really nice to find a book featuring an average person, well supposedly, with a head start from his prepper grandmother and years of experience hunting and trapping it feels like he's quite well prepared.

Joe turned out to go a genuinely likeable guy although I was a bit disappointed that he didn't end up going after the semi-girlfriend that was abducted. He helped so many people during the story, and he really didn't have to, in fact most people wouldn't so this seemed out of character.

The story ends up showing both the best and worst of humanity, including the cliffhanger at the end.

The narration is very well done, the character voices are distinct and recognizable and the overall delivery is a good match for the story.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Great 1st Book to a Series with Great Potential

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of American Survivor, American Apocalypse, Book I: by AJ Newman and narrated by Kevin Pierce. First off, you need to understand that this is my favorite genre for audiobooks and narrated by my favorite narrator. This was an excellent start to what should be a great series. The character development was very good and the storyline is very believable. I think the people behaved and acted very much like what I would expect in a real life situation. This is one of those books where I did not want to stop listening. So every moment I could I had my earbud in and the story turned on. This has the potential to become an awesome series and one of my top ten. As usual the narrator did a superlative job with reading this story. Kevin always makes the story come alive in my mind and I can visualize the story as it unfolds. Keep up the great work and keep them coming.

A fun SHTF adventure...

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook, the author kept it entertaining and did a good job of developing a story that allows the listener to feel like he/she is a part of the story.

I did have a few criticisms, not major issues, but enough for me to lower a potential 5 star novel to a 3 or 4 star. The biggest issue is that I couldn't tell whether most scenarios were happening days, weeks, or months apart. I'm hoping the sequel (which I will buy, because I did enjoy it) will clear up some of the, almost too many, loose ends or cliff hangers.

Kevin Pierce, as always, does an amazing job narrating this story and really brings the characters to life.

A great apocalyptic thriller

This is the first book I had listened or read by Mr. Newman. He is an excellent storyteller.
The basic story is a plump fellow that works as a mechanic and his world is rocked .

He has had some tragedy in his life and his recently deceased grandmother had written some daily letters to guide him along through life and his inheritance

Life gets worse as things start to go badly with a massive attack on the power grid. Joe finds out about himself and others in this well written story. A great listen if you like good characterization and dystopian fiction. Narration is excellent Mr. Pierce is the best IMO. I look forward to the other books

I was given the book to listen and review. The thoughts are my own and sincere thoughts after listening to the book

Not your average Joe!!!

This average Joe is faced with a couple of tragedies prior to an EMP hitting the country. As the days pass and Joe learns how to struggle through life, his grandma’s letters keep him on track and lead him to a strong, beautiful woman and her daughter. Interesting read and fantastic performance by Kevin Pierce!
