Might have been five stars, but…

Author has poor understanding of asymmetric warfare.
- guns have magazines, not “clips”
- Molotov cocktails and buried IED’s are effective antitank weapons
- rate of fire of 1600 rounds per minute lasts only five seconds
- drinking bad water makes you sick
- radio communication exists, as well as optical telegraphy (heliograph) with 20 mile range. Fancy gear not required for Morris code.
- there is great competition for the affection of beautiful women in their early twenties.
- Captain Hook could be gravely injured picking his nose or scratching his behind with his prosthetic hook

The characters were realistic as well as the human responses and traumatic situations. It is a timely saga of "what ifs" for this generation.
