Publisher's Summary

Harley Vincent is resigned to life in the human world. Sure, being a margay shifter is half her nature, but life among humans gives her the freedom to roam and do as she pleases. That is, until anti-shifter extremists target her, putting her life in immediate danger.

When an old acquaintance and onetime fling, Jesse Dalton, shows up to offer the protection of his pack, Harley hesitates. She may have feelings for Jesse that go beyond their one-night stand, but life among shifters means giving over her independence to the needs of pack. Plus Mercury Pack has its own threat to face: a rich half-shifter is determined to claim their territory at any cost.

Jesse, who lost his true mate as a child, has wanted Harley since their night together, and he's not letting her go again. They may not be destined for each other, but he knows she belongs to him and with his pack. Even if he can convince her to join him now, can he convince her to stay?

I'm a huge fan but I have to say this was my least favorite in this series. Usually I can't put them down but with this one it just didn't grab me like all the others. It did make me begin to listen to the series from the beginning though!

"Not the best addition to the story."

This book made me mad at the Mercury pack, most of them started out as assholes to Harley at the beginning of the book. I was disappointed in the pack, who by now I consider my friends. They do turn around quickly, but it soured my enjoyment of the book. This was not one of my favorites from the series. I'm also not a fan of couples who have already been together, but then for some unknown reason separate, then get back together. Very few authors can pull this off. I still liked it okay and it made my day go by quickly at work, so there is that. I also love the kids, Willow had me cracking up. This is a series that should be read in order, starting with the Phoenix series. Narrator does an good job, and I would happily listen to anything she narrates.

"Loved the story -But too much sex!"

I loved the story but just too much SEX. I really do love it when there are sexy scenes as long as they enhance the plot but just to have it for sex's sake just doesn't do it for me. Sexy scenes are awesome as long as they are something that works within the plot. I just like a good story line. However, others might like it and I do have a fast forward button so that I can get back to the plot and I don't skip them all. It does make a 5 star book go down to 4 or 3 when it overwhelms the book at least for me it does.

    "Weakest story in series"

The author's and narrator's voices both sounded "off" in this book. I'm no prude as anyone who reviews my library can attest, but the inconsistencies in the storyline kept it from offsetting the heavy sex. ( ex: she's a musician performing at a nightclub; but at her mating ceremony she "doesn't like to be the center of attention". Where did I miss her stage fright or fear of performing? her angst and pushing herself to go out on the stage? Nada. Nichts. Nyet. If I'd read this book first, I would never have bought the others. I really got a feel in the work that Wright was spending time reading Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series (scents) and her Psy-Changeling series (cat & wolf shifters)....both of which are excellent.

Jill Redfield does a stellar job of narrating this book and voicing the different characters. It was a great story and I enjoyed it immensely.

    "Another joyable listen"

This book is another shifter romance with the same pattern as The Phenix Pack. This book's couple are not true mates but they have a history that makes the mating work.
As with the Phenix pack and the first Mercury Pack, there is an enemy to fight, some interpack drama and seriously, hot dominant sex. Most of the past favorite characters are back and there is even some cameos with the Phenix pack.
As always, this narrator is brilliant. My only wish is that the story was longer and that the pattern of the plot wasn't quite as predictable but, #3 will be an auto download. Enjoy!

    "borderline abusive"

forced myself to listen after the 1st hour, at 2 hours i had to stop. the story started up too fast, it was like the writer wanted to jump ahead. the male is just a bordeline abusive a**hole. couldn't listen to one more word. i really like Suzanne Wright's the other books a lot, that is why i gave it 2 hours of my life. but this is not worth a credit and i am returning it.

"Great story and addition to the series :)"

    4.5-5 stars

This was a great story and I loved Harley and Jesse.

Harley is a half-margay shifter (and half-human) that is a musician and has aspirations of owning her own club one day. Harley grew up in a margay shifter "pride" but it was a very dysfunctional pride and she didn't get a good view of shifters from her experiences growing up. When he father went to prison, Harley went to live with her human relatives. Harley's grandparents had a hard time accepting her shifter part so she learned to keep it hidden, even from her aunt Tess (who really loved her).

Jesse is an Enforcer with the Mercury pack. He lost his fated-mate when he was young and hadn't formed the bond yet. Regardless of his age, it tore Jesse up and that lasted for a long time. It lasted until he saw Harley for the first time and he knew that one day she'd be his. Jesse was content to wait at first, hoping that Harley would come back to the shifter world on her own. As the story's beginning, Jesse is getting to the point of being done waiting.

Harley has been moving around from place to place, living in motels and playing at clubs all over. She enjoys her life but has always planned to buy a club to run one day. She's currently working at a place she's considering buying and settling into the area. Jesse knows Harley is back in California and near the territory of his pack. He already has plans to go see her but his plans get moved up when he gets news of a car bomb on her car. They discover the bomb really is there and that an extremist group that hates and attacks shifters is targeting Harley because they think her father might be involved with "the movement" (a shifter run group that goes after extremist group any time they attack shifters). Harley is pretty surprised, both at having been targeted by the extremists as well as having Jesse rushing back into her life wanting to protect her.

Jesse offers Harley the protection of the Mercury pack and she agrees if his Alphas are ok with it (thinking they'd never agree). Nick and Shaya (the Mercury pack Alphas) do agree so Harley ends up staying with Jesse. It doesn't take long for Jesse to lay out his feelings for Harley and the fact that he wants her to forsake her fated-mate and form the bond with him through imprinting (a way to form a mating bond with someone you're not destined for). Harley is unsure because although she's always wanted Jesse, she doesn't know if she can risk coming in as second best to his dead mate. Jesse convinces her to give a relationship between them a try but it isn't easy. While dealing with their issues becoming a couple, Harley, Jesse and the pack have to deal with a threat to the pack along with some drama from some PITAs (pains in the...). Things get nicely wrapped up by the end but there's some tense times while things unfold. Once everything is handled, Jesse and Harley are doing well and well on their way to a HEA together.

I greatly enjoyed this story!. Harley was a great heroine, smart and independent with a good core (I really love Ms. Wright's heroines). Jesse was a good hero and while I thought maybe he waited a bit too long to claim Harley, once he did, he did a good job. He wasn't perfect but when he messed up, he did what was needed to set things straight and make up for his mistakes. The story was great and completely engaging (I finished this in 1 day) and I'd definitely recommend it (and the series although this story can be read as a standalone). :D

"More great characters from Suzanne Wright"

I love how the Phoenix Pack series is immersed in the Mercury Pack series. She has such unique characters with emotion. The narrator is amazingly good also. I've become a huge fan in a short time. Can't wait to try her other series. I love erotic stories that have an actual plot and storyline like she has.

"Not as good as the other stories in the series."

I usually really enjoy Suzanne Wright's work, but I have to say this was very disappointing. I didn't particularly like either Harley or Jessie as characters, and the story itself was rather dull and predictable. I also found Jill Redfield's narration rather annoying. This book was definitely not up to par with the other books.
