Publisher's summary

Vienna Stratton knew she only had herself to blame. You didn't let yourself become indebted to a man like Dane Davenport, no matter how badly you needed his help. As his personal assistant, she was very aware that the globally successful CEO was ruthless and unforgiving.

Of course, if she'd known he'd request that she be his wife for 12 months, she'd have hesitated in accepting his help. Because what she'd learned from Dane was that the devil wasn't ugly and terrorizing. He was seductive and captivating. He hummed with whispers of temptation - the temptation to sin and surrender, to let him brand and possess you. He awakened every need and fantasy you had.

He could even make you love him.

Contains mature themes.

Dane & Vienna

*****Spoiler Alert*****

Audible review. Single POV (Vienna's). Standalone. Fake marriage to gain an inheritance. I liked the narrator overall but she mispronounced a few very common words/names. I enjoyed most of the story but I did get tired of "baby girl," "hmm," and "good girl." Also the story didn't circle back to the prologue until chapter 29 (listed as chapter 30). I had a hard time deciding whether the author was trying to make this a rom-com or a suspense, her jokes felt forced and fell flat everytime. I was also confused by Vienna's public loyalty to Dane while internally calling Dane "warlock" and the devil. Trigger warnings: Simon, Vienna's father, has Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities); Simon's mom abused him; Vienna's mom abused her until one of Simon's personalities beat her up; Dane's dad abused him; Vienna spent a long time in foster care and was abused by Heather, her foster sister; Dane's twin died when they were 8 from an allergic reaction to a bee sting; and there are lots of lies and deception throughout.

Dane (37) needs to marry before his 38th birthday and stay married for at least a year in order to inherit from his uncle. His uncle left Dane and his 2 brothers the same amount with the same contingency. If they don't marry it's split equally among the married brothers. Dane's workaholic uncle never married and wants more for his nephews. Dane's mom died of cancer when he was very young, his twin brother died of an allergic reaction to a bee sting when they were 8, his dad was physically violent and killed himself because he was deeply in debt when Dane was 15, and his dad's brother raised Dane and Dane's remaining two brothers after their father's death. Dane helped Vienna (25) with her ex-boyfriend and he wants her to marry him in return. She agrees to help him and they elope to Las Vegas. Vienna also had a violent childhood. Her mom was physically abusive until one of her dad's personalities beat her up defending Vienna and her father was finally diagnosed at which point he finally got help for his disorder. Vienna went into the foster care system and was raised by a nice couple who had a daughter of their own. Their daughter bullied and abused Vienna until they came home and found Vienna in their trunk and they finally learned what their daughter had been doing. What started out as an a repaid favor quickly becomes a lasting love with several bumps along the way when Dane and Vienna's families' both interfere in their marriage. There is an epilogue that gives a glimpse of what their life is like 8 years after they admit they love each other and want to stay married. JP

Fabulous hot story

Loved the cast of characters, even the evil ones. There were many different plots among the people going on, it kept you guessing in a good way what they were up to. It took a little while to get to their sex life, but it was blazing hot once they got started. A very well rounded book as usual for Ms Wright, I love all of her books specially the Phoenix & Mercury Packs paranormals. Great narration by Samantha Cook.

6 Stars!

It is the end of December. So far, this year, I’ve read/listened to 123 books and The Favor is possibly my favorite of the year. Top 2 for sure. I love the paranormal romance books written by Suzanne Wright so when I saw this book, I bought it immediately. Then, because it is so different from all of the other books I’ve enjoyed by this author, I didn’t start it right away. I kept moving other books in front of it. What a silly choice that was. Once I started this book, I did not want to turn it off. I stayed up past my bedtime listening and then woke up before my alarm went off so I could continue listening. This book was literally everything that I love in a book. It was as close to perfect for me as I could ever hope for. I absolutely love fake / arranged relationship tropes and this one was terrific. I loved the characters and this story had all the good stuff- emotion, passion, humor, loyalty, only mild angst, action, protective partner, and love. I will definitely listen to this book again. I will also be purchasing a hard copy for my shelves so I can display it amongst all my other favorite books. The narration was excellent. I highly recommend this audiobook. It is worth the credit or the full cash price.

Lovely Story

I have lots if this authors books in my library. I love her writing style. This new contemporary romance is now on my fave lists. I hope she writes more of these. The only negative is that the narrator did not simulate from character to character very well. Often I couldn’t tell who was speaking.

The Favor

This was such a cute book definitely worth a credit. I think my only complaint is that I wish the book would of had both points of views of the main characters. I had a hard time of trying to figure out the male character and what he was thinking. I get that he is supposed to come across distant and all but I just feel like you don't really know him by the end of the book. But all and all very good 👍

One of the best romances I've listened to

I found this book very refreshing and different from the usual ones out there. It has plenty of romance, some drama, lots of antagonists, and a super hot, sexy, alpha male who knows how to treat the woman he loves without completely dominating her. I'll explain a little more in detail now and will do my best not to spoil the ending for anyone but there are some spoilers...you've been warned. Dane is a very handsome, mysterious, dark, and tortured soul but essentially a good and honorable man that hides it behind a gruff exterior. He appreciates Vienna for her strong, no-nonsense, take no BS personality. He recognizes that she is truthful and will tell it to him straight even if he doesn't want that. She has no problem standing up to him or walking away when she feels he has done something to warrant it. I've read so many romances that create the drama from a lack of communication between the romantic pair. You know the one that has the rest of us rolling our eyes and shaking our head while screaming internally "Just TALK to him." There is none of that in this one. Vienna DOES talk to Dane when things come up and Dane talks back which means that things get straightened out and the story goes on. Believe me, there is much for them to discuss since it seems like about 50% of the people in the book they encounter want to break them up for one reason or another. Since they talk to each other they stand strong against it all...TOGETHER. This is refreshingly nice to see. Also, Dane is very protective of Vienna and does not allow anyone to mistreat her or insult her within his hearing without dealing them swift justice in one form or another. Vienna doesn't even have to tell him...he has a tendency to sneak up on people talking smack to her while they are doing it. This happens a lot but I didn't mind. I really did enjoy this book immensely because there was no weak heroine or aggressively dominant alpha hero. If you're looking for that, try this book. You won't regret it. If you want the cookie-cutter scenario of the hero rescuing the damsel...this one is not that.

Amazing!! 10/5 stars

This is my first time reading this author and if I say this is excellent writing, it is, the heroine was not a door mat. The story was so well written with so many climax. Then the epilogue just crowns the whole story. Please get a copy
It’s is so worth the credit.

Genuinely Loved

Loved this story! Lots of surprising twists and turns... and *face fanning* steam.

Samantha Cook is one of the best narrators. She has a gift for brining characters to life and her delivery is quirky and unique. If you loved this, listen to That Guy by Kim Jones.
