Finally!

I have been waiting for this book to be released in audiobook format. I just love Dee Ann's parents in Big Bad Beast. We have heard about Darla Mae and Eggie Ray and they just seemed like the best couple. I was super pumped for this book. I was not disappointed in the least. The thing that surprised me the most was that Darla Mae was the one that had to chase Eggie in order for them to be together. I am also surprised how intense Darla Mae reacted to anyone who tried to bad talk Eggie. She was not playing about her feelings when it came to him.

We did see Ric and Dee Ann in the book however they did not have the same personality that I love in their book. That is the only thing that was annoying for me. I had them in my head and then it was ruined. This is a story that I will listen to over and over again because it is Eggie and Darla!!

Lots of laughs

Two good stories. The first one gave the background to the start of one of the families. Shelley Laurenston writes a good book, her characters are full of action and fun !
Cynthia Eden never fails to entertain! I have never been disappointed in one of her books.

To other Laurenston fans who stalled because, hey.

I confess. I kept bypassing Laurenston's Like a Wolf with a Bone because I couldn't imagine Egbert Ray Smith--Eggie to his Pack--as a romantic character despite years of Pride/Pack references to how he adores his mate, Darla Mae. Also, since I started listening to this incarnation of the author with Charlotte Kane/Johanna Parker as the narrator, and was generally happy with that pairing, I was reluctant to try Kasha Kensington's version of the voices.
Wrong on both points. But unlike many other outcomes of personal prejudice, these two misconceptions gave me an wholly unexpected treasure. I was comfortable with Kasha's voices, some even better (imo) than Charlotte's. That's an aside. The preferred characters are not in this tale.
And Eggie. And Miss Darla Mae. Happy sigh. Wonderful story, full of family folly, warm with unexpected sweetness and strength, laced with Laurenston's signature humor.
I'll never read--or re-read repeatedly--anything with Eggie Ray without remembering this back-story and smiling...

Very slow

They were both slow moving stories. I fell asleep twice. Interesting idea for a book, I wasn’t impressed.

Eggy is lovely

I just liked getting to hear about how these two started. They are pretty amazing and I was such a fan of the pair I’m happy we got a look at them.

I’d never read the other author before and I really liked the intro and plan to go look for a few more. Great reads.

Loved the 1st, not so much the second.

I loved 'Like a wolf with a bone"! thankfully I was fortunate enough to stumble on this book before I read all of the other books in Shelly Laurenstons' world. This was the story that made me a fan of Shelly Laurenstons books. I've listened to the whole series over a few times and I always come back to this particular story when I need some nice light fun. Eggie is definitely one of my favorite male protagonists in this world. He is such a badass, EVERYONE is afraid of him, but here you see a part of him that makes me smile every time he is brought up by any other character in this world. Shelly has some really good couples, but Eggie and Darla are one of my favorite couples!!!

Wed or Dead, on the other hand, is not one of my go too's. I didn't like it as much and honestly I always just listen to the first story and "rewind" I found the blind trust most of the characters displayed to be unrealistic. I don't care how much I love my family members, if one of them were to shoot me, there would be hell to pay. I rolled my eyes too much to get into it.

Fun romp

This book is a fun fluffy romp. Although it does briedly look at the dark underbelly of the world... it does so in very broad strokes so it still comes off as a sweet story where the "good guys" come out on top.

This is the dumbest damn thing I’ve ever listened to.

This is the dumbest damn thing I’ve ever listened to and that’s saying something. I think the really bad narration was made even worse by the narrator. I made about half way before I couldn’t take it any more.
