Those are the things he knows and believes in. Love and the hurt that comes with it has no place in his world, until he receives new orders to rescue female werewolf Ava Renfroe from a pack of rogue wolves.
Bartender Ava Renfroe is tired of alpha males running her life. Being raised as the daughter of a general made her want independence more than air - and she has it! Until she's kidnapped. Damon Trahan, her alpha male rescuer and bossy pain-in-the-ass, is exactly the kind of man she doesn't want, but try telling that to her libido. His brooding good looks are panty-dropping hot. Too bad he's bat-shit crazy and thinks he's a werewolf. Worse, he claims she's a werewolf too. But when Damon shifts in front of her, she begins to doubt everything she's known to be true.
On the run from the rogues, Ava and Damon can't ignore the red hot passion between them. But Damon knows it can't last. Will he sacrifice everything he's ever known to have the one thing he's never meant to have? Or will the war between the packs destroy them before love is given a chance?
I was expecting the average shifter book, you know...werewolves, sex and little plot but I was thankfully wrong! I really enjoyed this story line. The Characters were great, I love dominate bossy wolves! I love that she wasn't weak and even though she did't know it in the beginning, she was very dominant too. The sexual tension in this book is off the charts too! The side characters were great too, especially Granny, she was the funniest. I can't wait for the next book in this series!
The narration was really good too! He has a great voice and does a good job on the female characters. In the beginning I was reminded of the announcer from the old TV show, America's Most Wanted and that made me giggle.

AudioBook Review:
Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 4
It has been a while since I read a shifter story, and the rules for these are a little different from my usual fare. Knowing that I would have to have a healthy dose of ‘go with it’ for some of the more fantastical moments, I was curious to see just what would happen. I’ve heard good things about Jodi Vaughn’s writing, so the chance was one I jumped at.
As an introductory story, it did provide some of the background and world building needed to understand this author’s creation stories and mythologies. While I found that some of the questions I had going in were still unanswered at the end, the story did manage to create a world where I could see this pack surviving and thriving.
In this story, Ava is the one to discover, when after her kidnapping she discovers both the existence of shifters and her own connections to them. With her own rather smart-ass attitude and a touch of immaturity, she isn’t shocked more than the time it would take to change shoes. In fact, her entire thought process circles around, too frequently, her attraction to Damon the pack’s guardian.
For his part: Damon is pretty solid he-man alpha mine-mine-mine sort of guy, willing to give Ava a bit of space and time, but even with the threats and danger from the rogue wolves, he can’t really stop his own obsessive thinking.
Together – this is a wild ride: lots of danger, angst, twists and plenty of sexual tension – tension that strings everyone (from characters to readers) tighter than a bow string. There’s plenty to love even with the loose ends and unanswered questions, and the action here is non-stop. While I didn’t find myself desperate to finish the story, I also wasn’t counting the minutes or pages until the end.
Narration is provided by Jeffrey Kafer, there’s an interesting growly ‘America’s Most Wanted’ tenor to his voice, adding nicely to the tension. Clearly distinguishing the male and female voices without overacting or sounding too comical, Kafer provides a nice balance that keeps the listener engaged and listening.
A nice mix of tension, action, steam and push-pull between the couple in this solidly southern tinged story: sure to please those wanting a bit of different in their romance.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions and expectations are my own responsibility.

If you could sum up By the Light of the Moon in three words, what would they be?
Enthralling first book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of By the Light of the Moon?
When she finally realized what she really was.
What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?
His narration was steady and clear, and, in my opinion, he was perfect for this book. I'd like to listen to more books Jeffrey has narrated.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, and I did, and I will more than likely listen to it again before book 2 releases in audiobook.
Any additional comments?
The story flowed nicely. It was intense, suspenseful and sweet. And did I forget to say it was hot? OMG! I hate reading spoilers in reviews, so I'm not about to do that. If you want a book that will send you on an emotional rollercoaster, download this one now.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book didn't make me laugh but it did bring a smile to my face when I though about Granny's antics!
Any additional comments?
This is a very good start to what will I hope be a very good series. I really enjoyed listening to this and I so wanted everything to work out for Damon and Ava. Every character in the story was excellent and I'm sure that Jayden deserves a book of his own. I fell a little in love with Damon I have to admit he was so very strong and stoic about what he thought he would have to do. I'm so glad he didn't have to give up Ava.

I got this ARC via audiobook boom. I loved the way this story started. But the plot twist and the way the two main characters joined forces really made the story come alive. the narrator did a good job of moving the story forward. You could hear the emotions as he told the story. After being expelled from his last pact, the hero thought he had finally found a home then just when he was settling in he is sent on assignment alone. You can imagine how he felt. Being kicked out again. But that was not the case. You will have to listen to the story to get the full extent. Can you imagine waking up in a drug induced state and being on a cold cement floor? well imagine no more listen to the story and find out what happens. You won't regret it.
I really liked this book and finished in one sitting! The storyline and rules of the pack are different from others I've read which makes for a fun and interesting listen. Jeffrey Kafer's narration is great, too. I can't wait to listen to the next in the series! I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.
This is the first Jodi Vaughn book I have listened to and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I don’t usually choose shifter stories so I wasn’t sure what to expect. This book had a good storyline, great characters, action, suspense and even some comedy. The visit with granny was hilarious! She is a great character. I really liked Damon and Ava and liked how strong Ava was. Jeffrey Kafer is an amazing narrator. He can do so many different voices it is difficult to believe there is just one narrator doing them. He also conveys emotion when necessary and makes the listening experience totally enjoyable. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am providing an unbiased review. I have no problem recommending this audiobook.
I loved this story & being able to listen to it made it even better. Jeffrey Kafer did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life. His voice fit the main character like a glove. Loved it!
Ava has been kidnapped and kept sedated until her kidnappers present her to their male pack members as a female baby factory. Damon finds her just in time to rescue her from her fate. The two go on the run to return to their pack. Lots of romance, comical situations, danger, happiness and sadness accompany them. Really liked this couple, the intelligent writing and the narration.
Great characters with a suspenseful storyline that wrapped itself around my imagination. I'm HOOKED!. Looking forward to see what comes next. Also this was some great narrating.
