Publisher's summary

Bastian had to have been the most handsome man that Katherine had ever met. It really was unfortunate that he was also the most stubborn, controlling, downright infuriating jackass she'd ever known as well. Oh, and there was the fact that he was a werewolf - a werewolf who has bitten her.

Sixteen-year-old Katherine Mayes had never believed in mythological creatures like werewolves or mermaids - certainly not those sparkly vampires that her friend Abby was obsessed with. Even when she's bitten by a massive animal after a reckless night of teenage adventure and her body begins to change in mystifying ways, she can't force herself to believe in what she's convinced is impossible. Little does she realize, she's been infected with a disease a little more permanent than the rabies she feels fortunate to have not contracted - lycanthropy.

Her fierce denial is soundly shattered, however, when she is simultaneously saved and kidnapped by Bastian and his pack. Forced to leave small-town Iowa behind and adjust to their way of life in a hidden society, Katherine must also deal with fighting the pull she feels towards the man - or wolf, rather - who has bitten her and disrupted her life so completely.

Good

I liked the story. It’s YA in nature but it finally grabbed my attention towards the end. I’m intrigued on how the characters love for one another will bloom.

loved this book!

I loved this book. Reading some of the reviews make you think the narrator isn't that good or the story is too simple and played out, but it's not. its something you can listen to in the background and still like and engage in. The main characters are cute. Katherine does get on my nerves sometimes with her attitude and her "I'll show him" type of attitude, but it just gives her that type of fire that I like in my female characters. Will definitely read again.

Pace could be shorter

I really did enjoy this book. Catherine was a bit too immature for me. It was the very last chapter before they closed all the loopholes. However, despite some parts being very predictable, I did enjoy the twists.

Good and short. Perfect for a weekend read.

Nice romance albeit following the usual contrast formula. Kept me well engaged. Very entertaining read.

Definitely a story of young love, soulmates, and youthful rash thinking.
A hidden society and the complexities of its continued existence in a modern world.
Overall a good start and the series characters mature grow and adapt in the two. following books..

REALLY needs a good editor

This was the first book I have read by the the author and she is SO very talented ❤️, but there are so many things wrong with this book, where to start. Catherine is a teenage girl who is bitten by a wolf than her parents are killed. She is kidnapped by a group of people (also teens/adults) and taken to Canada to live.
She escapes them and goes to her sisters, but finds her sister has left to go burry their parents. She does not reach out to her sister to let her know she is alive, nor does she give a second thought to her parents, friends or deceased parents, all of whom she loved dearly. -not making sense.
She lives with the Alpha and the pack, but still is forced to go back to school. Several times she is in a position where she is told she is not wanted, that she isn't needed and ungrateful for what she has. She has only been with them a few weeks but has a 'I have no choice but to rebel and still do it my way' attitude. Not making sense for someone who lost everything (except her sister who she never reached out to) and just found out she is a werewolf.
Now, there are so many ways these could have been explained or rewritten, which a good editor would point out. The author has a beautiful way of explaining ideas and feelings, the book is great for that. But alas, I am dropping the series to start another that doesn't make me say 'What? Are you serious? That would so not happen...'
