See where the USA Today best-selling Author Kathleen Brooks began!

This is the first book in Kathleen Brooks' Best-Selling Bluegrass Series.

McKenna Mason, a New York City attorney with a love of all things Prada, is on the run from a group of powerful, dangerous men. McKenna turns to a teenage crush, Will Ashton, for help in starting a new life in beautiful horse country. She finds that Will is now a handsome, successful race horse farm owner. As the old flame is ignited, complications are aplenty in the form of a nasty ex-wife, an ex-boyfriend intent on killing her, and a feisty race horse who refuses to race without a kiss. Can Will and McKenna cross the finish line together, and more importantly, alive?

Loved it!

Where does Bluegrass State of Mind rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the whole story. Kathleen Brooks writes wonderful books.

What does Eric Dove bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice really embraced the light Southern drawl that you hear in KY. I was also impressed that he didn't make me cringe when he did the women's voices. Some times men doing women's voices are hard to take. This wasn't the case here.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! I usually listen to audio books while working in the yard or exercising. It made me not want to stop.

Kind of a let down.

Well, maybe I'm missing something. It has all the ingredients to make a good listen but really fell short for me and I'm sorry for that. SPOILERS: The h/h relationship didn't seem to have much depth and development. I didn't experience the journey. The ex wife was a good twist but again no journey or depth. The mystery plot was a good idea but again, no depth or development. The crimes were pretty whack but Kenna was running around more worried about what she was wearing to the derby and giving interviews on tv when she is supposed to be hiding out. A couple months in and she still hasn't pressed charges and when she finally sees her ex boyfriend it's like no big deal. He walks away.

As for the narrator, he has a wonderful voice but heads so fast through everything that it tends to de-dramatize everything. That's not too say I like a narrator to talk so slow that I fall asleep but to read so fast that I can't even feel the moment may have been a big part of what I feel was lacking.

I gave it 3 stars for effort but 2 stars may have been enough. Sorry. I just had high hopes. It got a lot of good reviews on amazon.

Just Okay

I purchased this and the second in the series at a good price so I was not so upset. I thought it was a little unbelievable at times. Maybe this would have been better narrated by someone else. I kept thinking as I listened to it that the narrator needs to be reading a mystery novel not Romantic Suspense as this was labeled because he does have a good voice, just not for the series.

I'm not going to get the next one in the series.

Don't waste your money

What would have made Bluegrass State of Mind better?

The story moved to quickly without enough details to go so fast, the sentence structure was very mechanical. The story line had promise but had a lot of holes and areas that needed to be worked on. The book Aldo jumped around so much it was confusing and you don't know what happened or what's going on. There were a lot of potentials where the author started something but then just left off in the middle and jumped to something else. It leave a you wondering about a lot an there is no closure at the end of the book. Don't waste your money.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kathleen Brooks again?

No not at the moment unless I maybe barrowed it from someone and thy have it an extraordinary review

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Eric Dove?

The narration was fine it was te material

What character would you cut from Bluegrass State of Mind?

None

Any additional comments?

Don't buy this book, I hate saying anything bad about the book but suggestion to the author rewrite and rerelease the book when you have actually completed the book. This seems like a rough draft.

Can’t consider this one steamy

The storyline was great and the small injection of suspense was an added touch. I only wish there was a bit more passion mixed in since I felt the story could have been so much better with that addition. The narrator also did a very nice job with the characters but his voice for the prince was superb. It was hard not to imagine Antonio Banderas for that personality. The second story in the series is about the prince so even though I am certain the passion will be lacking, thanks to the narrator, I will have to purchase that book as well.

A Bit Generic

After listening to this book, I'm really surprised that this book has earned such a high rating on Amazon, Goodreads, etc... Only a week after listening to this book and I'm having a hard time recollecting much about it, as I write this review.

No strong opinion about this book. It wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. It was just okay. Fairly generic, really. The performance was fine. I guess I was expecting more suspense, based on the synopsis. But, I still would have liked the contemporary romance if the main characters had been more developed. It was still entertaining though.
