This boxed set contains three books in the USA Today best-selling Glass and Steele series:

  • The Watchmaker's Daughter.
  • The Mapmaker's Apprentice.
  • The Apothecary's Poison.

India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her–an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.

Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again–and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.

With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, this thrilling historical fantasy series will keep you listening late into the night.

These stories have probably the slowest moving plotline I have ever listened to. That being said, as an anglophile, I am enjoying the nuances of British upper society and their behaviors. As an American, I could wish the heroine to be a bit more heroic and capable in times of stress. Nevertheless, it's like reading a Bronte or Austen novel, easy does it. If you like to savor your ice cream slowly, you'll love these stories. If you're expecting Harry Potter style excitement, look elsewhere.

Should be an anglophile to fully enjoy the series

what an amazing writ of fantasy, detectives, mysteries, and hidden love story. a must read for those who appreciate G and PG rated stories with a whimsical air to detective stories. an adult version of hardy boys / Nancy drew books I grew up on and loved!

Loved this set. The pacing of the stories are good, the details are on point, the language is consistent and easy to digest without feeling too simple or too formal. It was a perfect balance considering the time period in which it was set. The characters all have great chemistry with one another, all with a distinct "voice". Performance wise, I preferred Marian Hussey over the narrator of the first book. Marian does incredible voices, each distinct from one another and even better- very believable. I often find myself wondering how she does it! The Southern American accents are a little silly, (as a southerner myself), but I like it now. It's got flair. Can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Intriguing, endearing, and a little sexy

This universe is a lot of fun. Too bad the first narrator didn't have a good range of voices as the second one. The second one was MUCH better.

1st narrator not as good as 2nd
