Publisher's summary

This exciting audio drama is based on an immensely popular podcast that has received hundreds of positive reviews and has had over four million downloads - and counting.

For Army Reserve soldier Michael Cross, the world as he knows it ends in an instant. One minute he’s in college, and the next rioters are roaming the highway around him, breaking into cars and literally tearing people apart. This is the day the dead walk. This is the world of We’re Alive.

The first season features 12 chapters packing performances and sound effects that rival movies and prove that modern audio drama is undead and well. Join our survivors as they band together, struggle to fortify a safe haven known as the Tower, and discover that zombies are far from the worst thing in a post apocalyptic Los Angeles, where the rules of human decency no longer apply.

Little food. Little water. Little hope. Who is lucky enough to say "We're Alive"?

Critic reviews

We’re Alive is a modern rendition of an old-school medium. Maintaining a style that is both retro and contemporary, the radio drama will give horror fans the campy, kitschy style they like, but it also provides a variety of characters and development to keep general audiences engaged…Despite not being able to see the action, the excitement and intensity is still sustained through score and sound design. In some ways, the lack of visuals to accompany the audio creates more suspense. The narrator controls how much the audience knows, slowly teasing out information. Accompanying the drama are sparse moments of comedic relief…Expressing a keen awareness of the zombie subgenre, many of the jokes come from familiar scenarios and tropes of zombie stories.” (Examiner.com)

Worth the Listen

I’m going to be honest; I’m very picky about the stories I listen to but this story is very engaging with multiple narrators and you can barely tell they’re reading from a script, it’s more like acting and plays more like a movie than a book. While most characters are unlikable at first, trust the process, it gets better the further in the series you get. The zombies in the book are more resident evil type but that makes it more entertaining, learning about them as the series goes on. Overall; it’s a great series and I listened to all of the books in just a few days.

This is amazing

Let me preface this by saying this is a podcast and that you can find the entire thing for free online. If you like zombie fiction, this is the thing for you. It's more of a radio show, with different actors for each character, sound effects, music, etc. I thought I would find all of that annoying after being so used to one narrator audiobooks (where, let's face it, if there's music in an audiobook, it usually ruins the experience), but this was great. Like listening to your favorite show. You will become invested in, love, and hate different characters. There were moments where I actually screamed out loud. This is really well done. If you are like me and enjoy some of the more practical aspects of surviving during a zombie apocalypse, or if you are more interested in interpersonal relationships, there will be a lot for you to get into. There are something like 47 three part chapters available, so we're talking almost 50 hours of action. I feel like, i could start over and enjoy it just as much one more time. Highly recommended.

great performances, writing, editing

Would you listen to We’re Alive again? Why?

I have listened to We're Alive more than once and I always find something new about the story or characters. Enhanced version is a must for any WA fan.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoy how it is not just a "zombie" story, but a story of how people get along and overcome in the end of the world scenario. Not all gore.

What about the narrator’s performance did you like?

All of the character's are great and get into the roles. You get to know them just from their voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I think their own tag line works well: A story of survival.

Exciting and Well Produced

The story is exciting. The cast is great, various voices and sounds made for radio show are beautifully recorded! Characters are well developed, story line is easy to follow, even the ending of each chapter is engrossing; I couldn't put the audiobook down too long before I find excuses to finish listening. Looking foreword to season 2!

TEN times better than the Walking Dead

I found this gem in the surprise $4.95 Sale. Best money I've ever spent on Audible by far. After the first hour of listening to this book, I was hooked I couldn't put my iPod down. Season two and three are just as fun --Full of zombie gore, drama and of course the AWESOME sound effects. I cannot say enough good things about this book.

If you enjoy a good zombie book, this is definitely for you.

Awesome

Absolutely great story , cast and sound effects. A blend of The Walking Dead and Legion in the style of old-school radio dramas. I went through the entire season one in 2 days as I drove . The cast is top notch making it feel like your right there with them.

From Start to finish. This entire series is5 Stars

This sereis was addicting. I won't bore you with an overly long review. Following this group and it's ups and downs is an emotional roller coaster. The fact that it's acted out as a serial is it's best quality. Burt is my favorite character. I love his arc from start to finish.
