After knowing of the WH40K universe for quite some time but never exploring it, I decided to take in a few youtube videos about the overall storyline.

After that, i decided to try one of the many books on Audible and decided based on reviews and ratings this was a good place to start.

It is. The book is an interesting and exciting listen. The narrator does an amazing job and his voice suits the characters and universe perfectly. Especially when he goes extra deep for the terrifying and commanding voices of a chaos marine, or to deliver an especially powerful psychic command.

Ill be continuing immediately onto books 2 and 3 and look forward to hear and learn more about this dark, gritty and morbidly terrifying universe.

First foray into Warhammer 40k universe...Awesome

The Eisenhorn series kicks off with a bang! This book establishes what is to become the epic journey of Gregor Eisenhorn, an Inquisitor for the Imperium of Man. If you are a fan of detective stories this is for you. The novel slightly skims the world of detective work while going heavy into early Warhammer 40,000 lore and universe structure but it is most definitely not held back by that structure. Dan Abnett is a force to be reckoned with!

Early 40k but still valid

I would recommend this book to everyone who is new to Warhammer 40,000. It will really introduce you well to the setting, the grim darkness of the far future.

I really enjoyed the narrator’s performance. He gives a wide variety of impersonations without sounding forced. The setting feels very Lovecraftian which is a huge plus for those that like horror.

The plot of this book can be a little hard to follow with over over focus on details in some areas and a lack of it in others. Character dialog could be improved. You don’t get a good sense of whom the secondary characters are. When some die, it’s not very impactful.

It’s the first of a series. And although it isn’t a perfect start, I’ll definitely still give the next book a read to see where Eisenhorn goes next.

Good introduction to 40K setting

my friend has been getting me into 40k for a few weeks now. I've read up on some lore before hand but assumed this book would not be good for me as I assumed I wouldn't understand it all. I was wrong.

the story was compelling, characters were great, and story made sense, if you have a basic understanding of the lore.

the voice acting was superb, thats all I really have to say on that.

I did think the words, and names were confusing, and at some points I had to re-read(hear) it. Not too bad though. I do, however, thin this book can get confusing if you know nothing of 40k. luckily I did, so it wasn't so... alien to me.

overall, great book for people have seen SOME videos on 40k, new-ish to 40k, and those who want a good story.

best book for getting into 40k

the narrator brings this book to life, there's a tight balance between confusing and intriguing in the 40k universe and it appears to have been found in this book.

The switches between relative ease detective like story telling and action packed battle descriptions kept this at the tip of my (miniatute painting) chair.

a great intro into the 40k universe
