Overall a good read, but a VERY slow start

Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed the narration. She has such a soothing voice and the tone makes the scary parts even scarier. I overall enjoyed listening to her read this story, thank you.
As for the story itself, it was okay. Zombie/ apocalyptic type books have been a guilty pleasure of mine for years and this one was worthwhile reading. It starts very slow, with lots and lots of character development, which is great, but I read these books to get a scare, and it took hours before I even got to anything at all about zombies, but once you get there, things got more interesting.
I appreciated the quality of the writing, it was solid, but again, the reader can get lost in the character development. Maybe if more info was provided about how and why these people are infected, it would make the 'zombie' aspect of the story better. I found this book is much better than the bang, bang shoot em up kind of zombie book, those bore me to tears now!
I like the way you describe a scene, your phrasing and word choice help to bring the reader into the story. Overall, I just want more of a scare. The gore is okay, I don't need a ton, but I want more character/zombie interaction. I like the way you lead up to these interactions, you've got me hanging onto the edge of my seat, which is great, and thank you!
I like your writing style too, and I think that you give the reader a good scare, I just want more (I know, I said this a lot, but its true). I'd also like to see more of the science that's involved with this genre. More development on how the virus came about, not just how the virus showed up within the individual characters.
Overall, good book. I would like to see more stories like this one from you. Thank you!

It was worth the credit

I enjoyed the book. The story was an entertaining one and I loved the characters. The narrator was good with a pleasant voice and she did southern accents nicely. I would have enjoyed it all more without the profanity.

Good story

This is well written and well performed. I really appreciated that the main character was just normal and didn’t turn into a super soldier when crap hit the fan—well, not yet. She’s a librarian and easy to like, and the author gave her a super soldier to help her. And he’s madly in love with her. I’m downloading book two now.

Very good story….. readers voice whining at times but loved the plot can’t wait for 2nd book

Ginny is too pessimistic

Ginny is always looking at the negative and complaining. She is always comparing herself. I am only a few chapters in but I almost want to quit because of Ginny’s attitude. It’s far too much too soon. I keep yelling at her to get over it omg….

A Zombie Romance Novel

Basically a zombie romance between the two protagonists. Fairly slow and more of an internal diatribe of their feelings for each other. Writing is good and the narrator is great, but not my type of story.

Challenging

I really wanted a good zombie story which why I persisted despite immense annoyance. I found the woman protagonist too obtuse at times to be considered educated. It was also increasingly unbelievable to hear the male wax on about how beautiful and angelic the female character is. Is this really supposedly set in the 21st century?

Despite these things, I’m willing to give it one more try because I do appreciate the reluctant hero with war experience.

interesting listen

This book starts out slow, but the author uses that time to do a great job of character building. I enjoyed listening to this book and look forward to the next one.

This is ridiculously good!

I still have a couple of hours left but I absolutely had to drop this review to say how good this is so far. ACTUAL character development! ACTUAL plot! So few of these in this genre. Most of them feel like they’re written by goofy conspiracy nuts letting their inner 13 yr old boy live out his shoot em up fantasy.

So good so far…

Great story.. love it so far however I hate when the lead female is a weak and whiny it’s so annoying !!!
