Publisher's Summary

The year is 2011, and what starts as a pervasive and inexplicable illness ends up as a zombie infestation that devastates the world's population. Taking the form of a biologist's journal found in the aftermath of the attack, this pulse-pounding, suspenseful tale of zombie apocalypse follows the narrator as he flees from city to countryside and heads north to Canada, where he hopes the undead will be slowed by the colder climate. Encountering scattered humans and scores of the infected along the way, he fills his notebook with descriptions and careful observations of zombie behavior, along with terrifying tales of survival.

This frightening contribution to the massively popular zombie resurgence will keep fans on the edge of their seats right up to the very end.

Include so it’s free but

I’m not going to complain as I said it’s free. The story is fine but the narrators swallowing is disgusting. Maybe he did it to show fear but it made me want to puke. Throw in produce sounds of the background and it ruins the story.

Creepy

I really enjoyed this audio diary of this mans journey through the Zombie apocalypse. It's not a real long story and you don't really get to know most of the different people he meets, but you get to know him, his thoughts and what he is going through. When he was making the diary you can hear the people he's talking to, dogs barking and noises in the background and that made it feel very real for me. The ending gave me goose bumps! This is a good book and is definately worth a listen.

Scientific treatise on zombie appocalypse

Excellent scientific study of life during, and immediately following the zombie appocalypse. I wish it had been longer.

Great story- one thing though...

Loved this story and the thought process behind this performance is very cool. This is so small for many but for me, it’s the MOST annoying distraction. The narrators extremely loud swallowing was unbearable! It’s good every now and then for dramatic effect- but he did it so often I couldn’t even focus on what he was saying because I was getting soooo annoyed. It’s so loud and so frequent that it took enjoyment out of the story. Would have given a 5 star without this piece.

Pretty good story

I just can't pass up a zombie story. I researched this a bit before I bought it. It is based on a graphic novel, so the visuals are not included. However, it doesn't read like a graphic novel - which personally I think is a good thing, as sometimes I feel like those are not always particularly well written and can have underdeveloped plots and simplistic characters, in that they are driven by images a lot of times rather than writing. Admittedly, I am not a fan of graphic novels however, so probably haven't experienced enough to be a fair judge.

This was a pretty well written and fun short story. Reviews of the written version claim it is an entirely new spin on the zombie genre. I wouldn't go that far. It is written from the point of view of a doctor and takes the form of journal entries detailing his observations and experiences during a zombie outbreak. Essentially, it is a survival story, though there is a bit more explanation of how the outbreak occurred and it does have, at times, a somewhat scientific approach, which is a bit unique. But in the end it is a survival story, which is what the majority of zombie stories are.

That said, it is a really well done survival story. The performance is really great as well, so it does in fact feel like someone speaking into his voice recorder during a crisis at times. The story moves along nicely, and I cared about the main character, was interested to hear what would happen next, found the whole experience pretty entertaining.

My only complaint ( and this is a very small one, to be fair) is that it felt very short... wish it had been a longer story. Then again, I wouldn't want fluff to fill it out, and it was quite well done in its brevity... Seems slightly pricey for a short story, but you get what you pay for, and I would rather pay for a really well done 2 hour story than a poorly done long, long novel any day... So maybe my complaint isn't a very valid one, I guess...

In any case, if you are like me and like well done zombie fiction, I encourage you to give this a go... It is a fun couple of hours.

Great individual zombie surviver viewpoint

It's an interesting take on a zombie apocalypse and I enjoyed it from start to finish. I hope that Dr. Twombly was able to take a moment to look at Norma and say 'Ha! Ha! Told you so' at the end. Not very mature but that's what ran through my mind.
The narrator did a great job of portraying a nervous/anxiety ridden person surviving the end of the world. I've listened to some other books that he narrated and he is very good at making you believe he's that character throughout regardless of how different the character he's portraying in each book.

lip smacking, wet mouthy sounds, and swallowing

I've listened to over a hundred books and I have never felt disgusted by the narrator. I'm not picky normally, but I couldn't take all the mouthy sounds. So much swallowing.

easy listen

I enjoyed hearing this tale and really liked that it was short. I thought the narrator did a great job as well. The background noise was a nice touch.

An Entertaining Short Story

As a fan of Zom-Apoc stories, I found this short story to be incredibly entertaining and suspenseful! By the end, I was sad to leave the main character's life. I sincerely hope that the author chooses to revisit this world in the future.

The narrating was some of the best I've heard thus far. The narrator's voice was absolutely perfect for not only the diverse characters, but also for the chosen structure of the book. I look forward to finding other books narrated by him.

In all, this read checked every single box for my particular tastes. If you are also a fan of Zom-Apoc stories, then you should NOT pass this one up!
