Story
Multiverse travel is finally possible, but there’s just one catch: No one can visit a world where their counterpart is still alive. Enter Cara, whose parallel selves happen to be exceptionally good at dying—from disease, turf wars, or vendettas they couldn’t outrun. Cara’s life has been cut short on 372 worlds in total. On this dystopian Earth, however, Cara has survived. Identified as an outlier and therefore a perfect candidate for multiverse travel, Cara is plucked from the dirt of the wastelands.

Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

The Argus Space Station looks down on a nightmarish Earth. And from this safe distance, the Committee enforces its despotic rule. There are too many people and too few resources, and they need 12 billion to die before Earth can be stabilised. I was in my garage, when the space elves addressed the whole world. They didn't call themselves space elves, of course, but most humans struggled to pronounce Khjurhnalva. They had a message for us: Forces that had eradicated their species' males were heading for Earth. The space elves offered us access to the System, as cooperation was vital to the survival of both our species. I, Mathew, know all of the above is bullshit. I saw the truth with my own eyes, heard it from their beautiful, deceitful mouths. No one believes me, though. A planet-wide, survival reality show? Ridiculous.

Better then Alterworld or any other in this genre
The comment on the cover says "like Alterworld when it was still good." For myself, Alterworld set the standard in this genre, at least for the first 3 books (it went downhill fast after book 3). This is better then Alterworld due to the way it approaches the story. I immediately bought the 2nd book, and so far, it has been just as good as the first. I highly recommend this book.

great book
this is a great book. I really enjoyed the story and characters, and of course the narrator is one of my favorite so that made it even better.

A whole new world
I really enjoyed this first book even though I’m not a gamer it was still a great listen, plus I like really long listens so, there’s that. There was a lot of technical gaming information in regards to moving through levels, gaining experience points and abilities, etc. but I didn’t mind any of that at all, it was interesting.
The narrator was excellent and gave each character their own personality and voice. Looking forward to book 2 (even though it’s short) ;)

One of the better life in a game books
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This book was a bit of a hard start for me to get into, but after a little bit it became hard to stop listening to.
