MC needs to communicate

The story is a fun adventure to listen to with plenty of action and politics to keep it exciting. I continued this series because the other characters and world development was interesting and promised exciting development. The MC is such a loner that we don't get a chance to delve into any of the other characters stories. MC still let's himself be blind sided and focuses only one aspect and ignore everything else. When he does decides to make a decision it's weak or like a impulsive child. His AIs are more entertaining then him.

Better but still too minutia heavy

Book 2 was significantly better than book 1. The narration continues to be great. Areas of improvement:

- A plot finally presents itself

- Alan starts to make a few decisions of his own

- Lambda is far more interesting than Eve, the exposition engine

- People are starting to appear like people and not low budget computer NPCs

The series continues to suffer from the sin of telling instead of showing. He tries to rectify this somewhat by showing new discoveries in training simulations, but they are no stakes throw away scenes. Likewise, the massive info dumps, while less common in book 2, are still far too many.

OUTSTANDING story line!!

I really do like this story line. Lots of Twist and turns and it doesn't bog down while keeping up the speed needed to keep one in the story.
The main character some times seems like and idiot but he does have help from others...

Just good enough...

I was disappointed in this book compared to the first. It seemed disjointed and like the author came up with the ideas as he went, without an pre-existing plan. The ending wasn’t very suspenseful.... plus it was short. Can’t expect much from Audible with that regard, though. I’ll hang around because I like the Mx and the world and try one mire, but I’ll be sure to read up on it first.

Such potential

This book really starts going in a different direction then the first book. The world in this story is amazing and I love the characters. But the story seems to snag a bit on hacking and politics when there is so much more that the MC could be doing. I get that it is a prequel to another series but the first book gave me a taste of greatness and this book seems to be mostly filler and backstory in comparison. Still a decent book all in all.

I enjoy the concept but...

Why did you have to make 4/5 characters insufferable in every way. Seriously is it like a rule in the game you have to be dumb, condescending, aggravated, and unhelpful 24/7.

It was great, just make it like longer next time

This was a very fun listen. Nick is also a great reader. It’s just a little to small. Been reading some others that are just as good but 3 to 4 times longer. This does not tale away from the great story. It just a bang for buck thing:)

Still can't put the series down!

Book 2 builds upon and exceeds the first book. Can't wait for the next in the series!

So far...

--So far in book 2. The main character is that dumb kid in school who gets beat up by the other kids everyday but legitimately thinks those kids like him and thinks that they think he is really cool and intelligent. The main character is borderline mentally handicapped.
--I enjoy the world the author created. I do not enjoy the main character even the A.I. he created thinks he's an idiot.(beginning of book)
--edit: update (middle and end of book)
I really like and enjoy this world. I still do not like the main character. There is atleast 22 direct references from other characters and alan to him being dumb or mentally handicapped that doesnt include him just performing dumb actions. I think that alone is enough evidence for it to be canon that alan is stupid.
