Publisher's Summary

The thrilling conclusion to The Gam3 prequel trilogy!

After failing to take down the United World Government, Alan is a wanted fugitive on Earth. With nowhere else to go, he leads the Black Rose guild into the Abyss Labyrinth. But hidden agendas thrive within the mercenary guild, and Alan soon discovers larger forces at play.

The Game is a war for survival, and a solo victory is virtually impossible - Alan needs to pick a side. But what does winning even mean in the Game? Will Alan be just another sacrificial pawn, or can he find a path to success?

Note from the author: The Gam3 will be on an indefinite hiatus while a new story is in the works; but more stories with Alan are definitely in the future!

The author abandoned his game.

Well, it could have been great, but it’s very apparent that the author threw in the towel while writing this and rushed to a conclusion, even if it meant abandoning story arcs, characters, and resolution. Even so, this series is by far one of the best LitRPG offerings out there. Cosimo Yap is a gifted author and storyteller, and unlike many self-published books, especially in the LitRPG genre, this reads like it was professionally edited and released by a publisher. It’s a shame the author gave up on the story, but it’s better than the alternative of continuing something that an author doesn’t enjoy writing, because that always translates over to the reading experience. I hope we get a chance to enter Alan’s world again if Cosimo Yap puts his heart back into writing it. It’s a stellar LitRPG offering that is one of only a very few in the genre that can actually contend with the well done books of the Sci-Fi and Fantasy genre as a whole.

Great book till the last few hours

This series is fantastic and I was so disappointed when I heard it was canceled. Then he started back up again and finished yay. However you can tell pretty easily when he gave up on this series. He did the bare minimum to finish the book and the series. He completely left so much undone he basically pulled a last Jedi. I would say this book is even worse than the story lines killed in that movie.

Turnabout

The story had me pulled in entirely. The world was amazing, the feeling of insignificance felt, and the desire to succeed inspiring. This series is one of the first audiobooks I have bought and I found the voice acting and story perfectly in tune. *spoilers ahead* The final section has less focus on the combat, and arguably goes to great lengths to develop the character of Alan greatly. His personal conflicts are weighed methodically between his two AIs as he loses one and befriends another. This final section definitely showed Alan’s growth towards his own independence. Although the story of Alan will undergo a “long hiatus”, I wish the author the best of luck in his next series and I will be there as well. I sincerely await with bated breath for the continuation of this series.

Excellent Book till the end

I absolutely loved this series. The books were great. The ending though was rushed. You could tell that the writer was attempting to get it over with. A lot storylines and arcs were cut short. So in the end I am only partially satisfied with the ending. Still worth the listen but prepare to be disappointed at the end

75% Awesome

I've really enjoyed listening to The Gam3, my favorite lite-rpg series of all time. Alan's fight against the system, taking thrilling gambles always kept me eager for more! Unfortunately, the ending did feel rushed and forced with a desperate attempt for something mind-blowing. Spoilers: I could've sworn Eve was going to swoop in and help Allan at the end! Yap really just dropped her out of the story. So much for doing more help away from Allan.

Compressed.

It seemed a bit rushed, like there was meant to be more fleshing out, and abrupt, like RL stuff happened that couldn't help affect the writing of the book. It seems like a project temporarily on haitus with the full understanding that it is abandoned permanently. Worth it in the public library, but here? Not so much.

What a let down.

If you are a fan of the series turn book three off before the epilogue. Then play the epilogue before listening to book four.

Great Start to Series but Crap Ending!

I very much enjoyed the 1st tow books. But third was a real let down and wasted end to an otherwise good story. I wish it had ended better.

Don't. Let the story end @ book 2

This one flew by. Felt rushed. A lot of weapon stats to fill word count. The ending was ... horrible. I mean, if he left a way out, I'll skip the next installment of Adam Ownage.

Crowbar everything into one book

The first two books in this series are great fun and quite different to other LitRPG stories. I recommend them to any fan of the genre. Now let's get to the spoilers section and therein lies the problem because a massive quantity of seismic story shifts happen in this fairly short book. Between the triggering of the extinction event, Eve's betrayal, the disappearance of the Black Rose council, unmasking of Phantom/Void/Enigma, the superpowers held by Aurora, Sidestep's death, being reunited with Katana and Daisy, then them dying within 30 seconds, the fight against the Emperor and the reveal that actually everyone's in the Matrix, this book jumps the shark backwards, wearing a blindfold while delivering a 41 gun salute. Alan's character has completely transformed. He went from being a cocky power-chasing player to being a total dick to everyone. "+700 level up" Holy crap, are we pushing the agenda here a little? Levels just became meaningless. The whole thing read like the author decided "yeah, I had a 10 part series figured out but I'm bored now so I'll throw every major plot into a chapter and get it over and done with." Very disappointing. Nick Podehl is as listenable as always. Not his fault that this is a rushed mess, spoiling an otherwise excellent saga.

lost it's way a bit

never got going until the end then it was trying to be too clever but it seemed to invest so much time in the early story then just left it and you was left feeling why have I just listened to hours of that for it to be irrelevant.

OMG!

Well I didn't see that coming! Excellent end to this part of the series... Request to the author: Please do not take too long a break to continue these stories. You have carefully crafted a believable plotline, characters and storyline universe. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by the community and we applaud your dedication. 10/10 Would love to see these books made into movies...

Rushed

I love the world in this series. The game itself, levels, factions and combat. However, this book introduces several huge things all with only 4 hours left to go. The ending is completely rushed and misses a big opportunity for more books because the author seems to have lost interest in the series.

a nice trilogy

It started off really well in the first book although the 3rd book let the series down. I still got through the books quickly and nice to get lost in. however lots of potential lose ends were left, it lacked getting involved in any particular plot on the last book and the ending was disappointing. all in all a nice series.

My kind of book

The attachment to the characters continues even though they are in a sim. Cleverly done and the story is plays out nicely. The meta - meta story is wonderful. An exception - that is what you said last time.

THE ENDING THO!

I will not spoil the ending but if you like the previous books you will like this one! I was a bit confused at points but I had a blast listening to this and after the ending it felt like a weight was put on me and then the epilogue life’s it right of and put a heavier one on. This is NOT a bad weight by any means. It is some heavy shit though.

Great finale

I can't tell if the final line of the book was a play on the popular meme... I loved this series. It was awesome to see him turn from noob to a true tactical God over 3 books. I'm now sad it's over..

something was missing

The story got too complicated. If you want to listen to this book it's best to listen to all 3 books in one after the other. I had forgotten so much from previous books that this book did not make sense.

lead character lost me

the first two books I found to be right there with the character, but this book, I felt like an outsider looking in, and kinda saw the lead character as a bit of a douchebag. That said, I still enjoyed the book.

So disappointed in the rushed ending

Such a brilliant series only for the Author to rush the ending. It was as if he was just bored with the story and wanted it over. It was almost like “and then they woke up and it was all a dream”. All this work to just throw it away, why.
