Publisher's summary

One woman is trapped in the death-grip of the past - and every one of its dark secrets - in this riveting novel of psychological suspense from the award-winning author of The Sisters and Local Girl Missing.

She can run…

As much as Libby Hall needs a vacation, she’s never considered taking one until she sees the note for a house swap. Suffering a miscarriage was a personal turning point. Saving a child from a burning school was a public one. Just as the emotional fallout of both incidents takes its toll, along comes her lifesavers - the Heywoods, a couple in need of a getaway of their own.

But she can’t hide…

Libby and her husband Jamie can’t believe their good fortune when they arrive at the Heywood’s isolated seaside estate with its panoramic views - and just in exchange for their drab two-bedroom apartment. How generous of the Heywoods! Yet how odd. Libby almost feels guilty until the home yields disquieting surprises: a fortune in hidden surveillance equipment, a stranger in the garden who watches them, and the make-shift operating room in the basement…

Because someone knows her secret…

When Jamie falls dangerously ill, all Libby wants is to return to their comfortably imperfect lives. But it’s already too late. Libby has just discovered the Heywoods’ biggest secret. And when it appears that even Jamie is hiding something from her, Libby’s paranoia gets the best of her. It should. For she has buried secrets of her own. As the past comes crawling out of the darkness, Libby fears she’s walked into an elaborate trap. But who has set it? What do they want of her? And what is she willing to risk to make it out alive…?

Very good book!

Purchased this book by mistake; I didn't realize it only had one audible review. But I loved the book so much so that I purchased another of the authors book's - Local Girl Missing (I didn't like this one much). Try to be patient because the main character seems ridiculously paranoid for the first few chapters but then the books turns. The storyline is awesome with so many twist and turns. Very creative and entertaining!

Really Good

Interesting storyline with many twists. Character development was really really good given the twists. I was definitely invested and wanted to see how it would unravel. The ending is not what you expect!

Narration is excellent!

What an amazing read!!

I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did! It’s truly gripping, a very intense story of two women leading such different lives after a tragic accident. Nothing prepares you for the end.

Moved along well

So many books I listen to in this genre start strong, then drag in the middle, then end strong. This book stayed strong from beginning to end. I enjoyed it!

A Good Ride

I enjoyed this book & the narration.
The end was good but a little lack luster.
Worth the listen but I did expect more of a bang at the end.

So confused at the end

I liked the book until the last hour, confusing and not a great story. I don’t write reviews often but felt compelled to on this book.

Very good story

Held my interest. Lots of mystery . Love the author. This is my second book by her and I will listen to her third. Unfortunately , I did not like the heavy accent of the performer. Very hard to understand her at times.

Story Good Narration Eh

Good strong storyline with developed characters. The narration was not so good. Distinguishable voices for the different characters would have helped.

Good Story - Horrible Narrator!

Okay thriller. Interesting character development and some surprising twists at the end. Thought-provoking story-line with troubled, flawed characters. Not super-satisfying at the end but it was a good ending.

Hated the narrator! She had the heaviest, most irritating British accent I have heard on audible. Every time she said, “me”, she pronounced it as “meh”! Very choppy and rough. It ruined the listening experience for me…
