Publisher's summary

Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.

Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives - predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning - and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development...

Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.

As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something - and that he might not be the only one with a secret.

She did it again!

A. R. Torre did it again! I preordered this book in April and have been impatiently waiting for what seemed like 3 years (which in reality was only 3 months). It was well worth the wait! She did not disappoint! I do not consider myself to be a qualified writing critic at all. I do listen to 2-4 audible books/week though (I listen while I’m at work as well as while I do house and farm chores), so I do have a lot to compare to. I judge a book by its ability to keep my attention and this book really kept my attention! I loved the plot, good twists, great narration and a bit of naughty fun, what more could you ask for?!? Well worth the credit!

Had great potential

If only the psychiatrist were an adult and not so annoying! All she can think of is having sex with a man who hired her for a profile? Really?

Great story

I really enjoyed the story and the overall outlay, but I do wish the narrator showed more of a difference between characters. Sometimes I got a bit confused. Not enough to stop me from enjoying! I especially loved how all of the characters storylines came together!

Kept me on the edge the whole time!

I loved the story and don't want to give anything away. Robert and Gwen met after a funeral and hit it off. But they both had secrets. Gwen is a psychologist and Robert is a lawyer. The twists and turns kept me interested the whole time and I couldn't stop listening! The only thing I would have liked for the narration was a full cast. But keeping in mind what actually happened would have made it hard to do. Highly recommend for mystery lovers!!!!

The Good Lie

Interesting story and several twists. But I did figure out who dunnit early on. I did like the “play” between Robert & Gwen. Narrator didn’t do anything wrong, but she just didn’t draw me in like others have. She does have a nice voice. Glad I got this one. Different approach for me with the doc & the lawyer interaction.

Action packed

This would make a great action thriller movie keeping you on the edge of your seat. It certainly had plenty of twists and turns and around each corner were things you could not possibly have guessed coming. I enjoyed the book as a whole and am glad I read it. While it took a lot of thought weaving the characters and plot to make this into the book, I didn't go higher on the stars simply because it was so far out of the realm of believability- it felt like it was made for a movie. You know, girl knows there is a killer after her... pretty sure he's in her house.... hears the bad guy in the closet.... yet instead of moving in the opposite direction the lady opens it up to check to see if she's right.... guys jumps out with knife...etc. Between the lawyer, psychiatrist, escaped victim, and a few other characters- their behavior and actions are just too out there.

Worth the read! Nice mystery

The jump between narratives from chapter 1 to chapter 2 was quite hard to catch on to at first. For almost 2 1/2 chapters I thought I misunderstood the book’s description and it told a new story each chapter! But chapter 3 began to clear the point of views and started to connect the narratives.
In the end, all the POV switches come together so nicely. It’s a pretty good read!

Disappointing

The story is OK. But the author did so little research in what the book is about that the whole thing is a load horse manure. Can’t believe the book has such high reviews…

A look into the thoughts of a psychiatrist.

I enjoyed this book. Parts were explicit and a bit disturbing, but didn't linger. Lots of twist which I really enjoyed. This book kept me well-entertained and the narrator was excellent.
