I have a new favorite author!

This is the second book I have listened to by Lisa Jewell, and they have both been excellent! Great stories, great narration, not slow at any point. I get distracted easily and will stop listening to a book if it starts to drag. Ms. Jewell has kept me thoroughly entertained. I'm about to spend yet another credit on my new favorite author!

Characters, good and bad, are well portrayed

For some reason, I think this started out slowly, but I can't remember why. I was so taken by this book that I listened to it and backed up the parts that were delivered to me as I slept. I do not enjoy telling plots or in any way destroying your pleasure. Just listen and expect it to gather you up at about the 3rd chapter. You won't be able to stop listening.

Loved It! Pleasant surprise...

Just started reading Lisa Jewell & she has a 'cozy' way of writing. Immediately, I feel easily drawn into the setting, the dialogue and the circumstances. Very engaging without high drama or unbelievable circumstances/story lines. Lisa Jewell slips me into her world, without losing my interest, and regardless of the rabbit hole she's taking me down this time, I'm a willing participant!!

Great psychological suspense

Any additional comments?

Dark and moody, this is a great psychological-suspense mystery with a lot of substance. The writing is excellent, the pacing is great, and the characters are very well developed and believable.

1. In a British seaside town, a bewildered man sits on the beach in the pouring rain with no recollection of who he is or how he got there.

2. In a London suburb, a 21-year-old woman from the Ukraine is thrown into a panic when her husband never returns home from work and police inform his passport is fake and he never existed.

3. The third mystery takes place 20 years earlier, in 1993, when a family's annual beach vacation to spirals into a terrifying nightmare.

Another great book by Lisa Jewell!

Really loved the book— I knocked a star because Helen Duff’s narration was off for this book— there are quite a few places where you can hear that she has had to redo audio and it’s really disconnected from the rest of the audio. Sounds quite “tinny”. As someone who has edited audiobooks, it really jumped out at me and I actually stopped listening after only 30 mins or so... put it aside for a week and then tried again. I’m so glad I did. The story is really good— I loved the twists and not knowing who Frank really was until almost the end. I like how Lisa tied up all the loose ends, as well. I hate being left hanging.
As others have noted, Helen’s voices for the men seem better than for the women, especially Jasmine and Lily— their voices were quite irritating.
Great suspense, good narration. Recommend.

Interesting story.. very different.

I’ll give this a solid 4 Stars. Story reveal (ultimately who is the man who lost his memory...is he character A or B or C from flashback) wasn’t super shocking but overall the story kept me engaged the entire time.
The narrator was great with all voices... except Lily’s! Her attempt at an Eastern European accent was dreadful, she sounded more like a bitter sad man than an Eastern European.. let alone a 20 something year old woman! The narration for men was more feminine than Lily’s voice. And it was slow and awful and almost made her unlikable. I think i would’ve liked her a lot more if i read the book vs. listened to it.

Complex Intriguing Story

I am rapidly becoming a big fan of Lisa Jewell her books are great psychological thrillers but written in a way that the characters become very real and believable. I really enjoyed this book the storyline was unusual with enough of a twist to keep the listener guessing until the end. Lisa really flushes out her characters and provides the listener with a real understanding of the motivations behind their acts. I am not a big lover of love stories but there are some nice tender moments in this book that make it an all round good read. The only issue I would critique is the narration. I always find strong accent changes off putting and I found Helen Duff's cockney (which kept slipping) irritating as were her mens voices. I think getting the balance between changing character's voices is very difficult and few narrators in my opinion seem to get the balance just right. A small moan about a very engaging book that I really enjoyed.

An excellent story however....

... The story is great, but the recording is very odd- it's as though parts of the story have been missed out but then added in later in a different voice. It's a real shame as the book is really excellent. It didn't ruin my experience of the book, but is disappointing that such poor quality has been permitted to be sold.

Not bad

Quite enjoyed this audio book, although I found the different accents annoying and some quality issues with the sound. But, an enjoyable listen.

Shocking moving and moves at a rapid pace

I loved this book
So many good ideas, so many twists and turns. Never a dull moment.
Cried through most of the last three chapters - and that's for me makes it a winner

Easy Listening - Good Holiday read

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes - Good for holiday read

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Shorten the end after truth comes out as the happy ever after bit goes on too long.

What does Helen Duff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She read the book without any silly voices or accents - just straightforward.

Did I Found You inspire you to do anything?

No

Great book

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Plenty of twists and turns to keep me listening. Listened to it all in two days. The plot was a little unbelievable but that didn’t detract and I still enjoyed. A great book to escape into. I love this author and would definitely recommend.

don't waste your time and money

OK, just before this one I listened to a probably one of the best audiobooks available right now which is "Call me by your name" read by Armie Hammer, so I guess anything would sound fade afterwards, but this was really very, very fade... The story is banal, it's recorded in a strange way (and I hated the different accents used by Helen Duff, it just never works) like the voice would come from different angles, very disturbing! The characters are flat and not engaging. Can't understand what people like about this book and where all these 4 and 5 stars come from...? Didn't work for me at all...
