Publisher's Summary

I’m a good girl.

I live by a code that can’t be bent or broken. It is my duty to my family to stay innocent and pure. To marry an Italian man. The stars are already aligned.

But Nikolai Kozlov re-writes my destiny with five simple words.

You belong to me now.

He's Russian mafiya. A thief. A skilled liar with no moral boundaries. He is everything I have been taught to hate. A man who stands for nothing. A man who takes what he wants without a second thought.

And what he wanted was me.

He thinks he controls my fate, but what he doesn’t know is that sometimes it’s the good girls you have to watch out for.

I’m a dangerous man.

I live by a code. The Vory code. It is my duty to my family to protect the brotherhood. To destroy anyone who threatens what we stand for, including her.

She’s a dancer. A beautiful little doll. My prisoner and my new favorite puppet. This mafia princess thinks she has me under her spell, but in the end, she is simply collateral.

It’s a shame to destroy precious things.

But this is what bad men do.

Note: This book contains dark subject matter, please listen at your own discretion. This is a full-length standalone that can be read in any order within the series.

dark heart

Can dark hearts be melted? Maaaybe...
A great addition to the series, although it can be listened to as a standalone, I would say go listen to the other ones too, the story will be more rounded in your mind, having those characters joining in this one too. Wow... dark, heartbreaking, I was on edge the whole time, addicted and wanting more, Ms. Zavarelli has the "spell" to keep me interested.
Not sure I liked Nikolai before, but once knowing more of his life, and his quest, I understood his drive. What Tanaka went thru as a child, then as a young woman broke my heart. I would never thought they would match, but they did, even after so many explosive encounters and the dangers they were both in. Quite a few twists and the revelations made my head spin, this story is not for the faint of heart, I didn't know it ends in HEA till almost the end.
Ms. Marks did an amazing job ... again! Love the accents, love the passion and how each character gets its own voice.

Melt the man's heart!

Another installment of the Boston Underworld keeping me in love with mafia romantic suspense. This story features Tanaka, a mafia princess that is given to Nikolai as collateral for a debt owed by her father. Knowing what the life consists of, she is very aware of the her situation. She belongs to Nikolai, and with this there is a definite Stockholm syndrome feel in the story, I wasn't sure if I liked the character of Nikolai, he is harsh, rough and demanding, but as I learned more of his situation, I could see the good in him. I really enjoyed seeing Alexei again, his story is so compelling, and Zavarelli wove more of his hidden secrets into this book. I love how the book melds the Irish and Russian mafias together each with skills the other can use, and brining characters like Ronan in for a cameo appearance. With suspense, angst and romance, this book is has a little of everything to have kept me engaged and looking for more.

I have to say, the narration of this book is incredible, Tracy Marks gives a stellar performance. No other narrator has the ability to switch accents and genders as easily. Each character she creates has a specific voice and you know exactly who's speaking, an amazing portrayal of the Boston Underworld!

A new twist to Mofia romance

Note, this book is part of a series. I do not recommend reading it until you have read the other books in the series. It seems like each book is centered around a different couple but the characters are all intertwined in some way. With that being said, I did not read all of the previous books and was a little lost at certain parts. It did not take away from the story, just got a little confusing at times.

The story was great! It was a new concept in the mofia romance sub-genre and the author did great with it. There were so many times when I wanted to take Nikolai and shake him for being a big, stupid goon and other times when I wanted to hug and kiss him for being a sweet, loving man.

The narration was good, I did have a hard time understanding some names and words during Nikolai's chapters because of the accent but overall it was good.

The ballerina and the Russian mafiya man

Tatiana is a ballerina who is living under the control of her Italian mafia father and complies with his wishes...she is supposed to marry the man of his choosing. Then a huge change in plans...Tatiana is handed over to Nikolai, of the Russian mafiya, as collateral for money that her father owes. Over time, Tatiana develops feelings for Nikolai, in spite of his cruel words and treatment. Nikolai also feels drawn to the waif of a girl but he is supposed to marry his boss' daughter. Meanwhile, Nikolai is trying to solve the mystery of his mother's disappearance...what he finds is surprising and also very dark. There is so much packed into this book, as is typical with mafia books, that you will not be bored. Nice HEA that ties everything together...bad guys got their comeuppance.

Another great installment to this gritty new adult series

Another good installment to this gritty new adult series. I didn’t love it as much as some of the others but it was still a great listen. The sex seems are steamy and the characters are well developed. As always the narration by Tracy Marks is unbelievable.

I would like to thank the author/narrator/publisher for generously providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Amazing story and narration!

This is the fifth books in the Boston Underworld Series. I haven't listened to the first books in the Series yet. I love mafia romantic suspense. Nicolai is a Russian mafia man, dark, rough and scaring. Tanaka is a dancer with the NYC ballet company. She's beautiful and strong. Her father gives her to Nicolai for a debt. This story is darker than I was expecting, but it's also suspenseful and entertaining and steamy. Tracy Marks's performance is stunning and amazing with all the characters. She's breath taking! I really enjoyed my listening!

Just OK

The Boston Underground series is one of my favourite mafia romances. That being said, THIEF was my least favourite of the series. I love Ms. Zavarelli’s narrative but I couldn’t connect with Nikolai or Tanaka. I hated that Nikolai brought other women around in the beginning to taunt Tanaka, and I was not convinced that Nikolai really loved Tanaka. I felt as if he liked the idea of owning and possessing her. I was happy to see quite a lot of Alexei in this book though which made it easier to get through. The story itself wasn’t as dark as the previous books in this series which was disappointing as I have come to love these books for their grittiness.

As always Tracy Marks did a phenomenal job with the Russian accents for both Nikolai and Tanaka.

Great Addition To The Series.

Thief is a fantastic addition to the series! I hope Ms. Zavarelli will give us at least one more book for the series. Tracy Marks is a fantastic narrator for this series. The talent she has for accents, as well as believable vocal changes from male to female voices is extremely well done. This narrator brings the characters alive!

Nikolai finally gets his just due

At little background from past books, Nikolai Kozlov was introduced as Sergei's son (Aleskei’s brother~Ghost) and he was tasked with cutting off his father Sergei's ear for disloyalty. Nikolai also has bad blood with his brother Aleskei because Nikolai slept with Aleskei's fiancee Katya.

In this book, Nikolai kidnapped Tanaka "Nakya" Valentini, a blossoming ballerina, to satisfy her father Manuel's debt to the Vory. While in captivity, Nikolai observed Nakya with his eye as an artist, and soon he finds himself enthralled by the Italian mob princess. Soon Nikolai is caught between a rock and a hard place. He is in love with an Italian mob princess but he is supposed to marry his Pakhan's daughter, a proper Russian mob princess. Following his heart will certainly result in his death as well as Nakya's, but following his leader's wishes would be another kind of death. Nikolai has to choose between his Duty or his Love?

I liked this book but again the chemistry between Nikolai and Nakya wasn't built up well. It seemed more of Stockholm syndrome for Nakya as she did not have anyone. It made sense that she would feel a connection to the only person she sees or shows her human kindness. I just didn't feel their connection both on an emotional level nor a physical level. But they did provide comfort for each other for the pain they live with.

Instead, I enjoyed Nikolai and Aleskei finally working together and finding common ground. This part was already touched on in Ghost (book 3). This was the relationship that I have been invested in for the past couple of books. It was satisfying and fulfilling as they are both good men that were put in a competitive situation by a disloyal father.

A dark love story

Wow this book got very dark. I loved it so much. So much happened in this book it was so entertaining. It follows Tanaka a ballet dancer and daughter to the leader of the Italian mafia. She is given to Nikolai the Russian Mafia in return for a debt. What follows is a dark time for Tanaka as she heals from a very bad injury. Tanaka and Nikolai slowly start growing feeling for each other but people don't want them to be together. I love the feel of the book and that you get to see how both characters are feeling. Tracy Marks is just so fantastic I love her Russian accent and she keeps it up so well through quiet long sections. A.Zavarelli is just an amazing story teller she never disappoints. I have the first 4 books so look forward to getting to know the rest of the characters. This is so well worth a listen and a second listen. Amazing story.

Intensely dislike the hero

This went way over the line of overbearing, caveman, mafia, dark hero, and wayyyyy into abusive unlikeable hero. There’s no love here! No redemption. Just a seriously dysfunctional relationship. I like the series, but this book crossed a line for me and I kept listening hoping for a turn around in the character that I could buy into - it never happened. I’d like to say more but it would lead to spoilers.

love this series!!!

the fifth and final book in the BU series. I love A Zavarelli books, and i love, love, love Tracy Marks narrating. this book wasn't my favourite of the series, but it was still enjoyable nonetheless and was definitely full of the type of drama and emotion that you would expect from this series. Nikolais description was the first thing that threw me, from first hearing of him in the 3rd book, Ghost, I had conjured up a different appearance of him in my head, but I quickly got used to Mis Zavarellis vision of him. all in all, A recommended read if you love this series. you'll definitely need to satisfy your curiosity by reading this book.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT.......
the only part that has left me dizzy and confused is the a part in this book that corresponds with a part in Ghost, when Alexi finds out that Talia is alive, Nikolai already knows and is driving him to the hospital, but in this book, it is Alexi that informs Nikolai via text that Talia is alive. I may have gotten it wrong, but I reread the scene 3 times, and it just doesn't make sense to me. I struggle to admit this small amount of negative feedback, because this series is actually my hands down favourite, and I mean FAVORITE SERIES that I have ever read....and I have read a lot.
love your work, Hun. can't wait to see what you give us next!
