Publisher's Summary

"Why won't you just tell me what's in that cake?"

I'd been trying to get Laine's recipe for years. We all had.

When all else fails, turn to the divine taste of hummingbird cake.

In the South, you always say "yes, ma'am" and "no, ma'am". You know everybody's business. Football is a lifestyle not a pastime. Food - especially dessert - is almost a religious experience. And you protect your friends as fiercely as you protect your family - even if the threat is something you cannot see.

In this spot-on Southern novel brimming with wit and authenticity, you'll laugh alongside lifelong friends, navigate the sometimes rocky path of marriage, and roll through the outrageous curveballs that life sometimes throws...from devastating pain to absolute joy. And if you're lucky, you just may discover the secret to hummingbird cake along the way.

Gut wrenching you poignant

What else do you call a story that has you twisted in every direction? I laughter and cried and held on to every word. Cut my kids off and husband shushed the heck out of everyone so I could finish this book! In other words I got pulled in so much so that I became vested in them. Never having had a friendship so seeped in history and love like these women it was both inspiring and fascinating. I loved this book! Three women full of character will take you on a journey with them that will touch you and inspire you. Recommend it absolutely!

An Excellent Book

This is one of the best books I’ve “read” this year! I enjoyed learning about the lives of the three best friends and how they faced their various life problems. I highly recommend this book!

Loved this book

I bought the book because I liked the title and I was looking for something chick lit to pass s night recovering from an orthopedic procedure. It was as another reviewer wrote gut wrenching, but also uplifting and funny.

Get The Tissue Ready.

The true meaning of friendship. This story brought me to tears. Even though the story was sorrowful, I loved the friendship, love, and connections these three women had with each other, it was priceless. The narrator did an amazing job in bringing the characters alive.

Delicious Reading!!

I loved listening and hearing this precious story. How we have all lost something aong the highway of life, only to imagine but for a split second where it went. In this novel, it is there in a simple recipe of friendship and cake. God has blessed all of us with that, we need to see and rekindle that in what we have lost over the year's. Read, reflect and share and a piece of cake today with someone you LOVE!

Waste of a credit

I couldn't make it more than halfway through this book. The dialogue is poorly written and the level of cheesiness makes it downright difficult to listen to.

Heartwrenching and sweet.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is full of sadness, humor, lasting love, sweetness and honor.

What does Nan Kelley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nothing! That was my only dislike...this book is set in the south and in my personal opinion, it should have been narrated with a southern dialect. Nan Kelley is a great narrator, but she just didn't fit this book. No one says the word Mrs...properly...it is alway Miss...narration was too proper for the book I thought.
