Publisher's summary

Part of a small demon lair in Las Vegas, tattooist Harper Wallis lives a pretty simple life. That changes overnight when she discovers that her psychic mate, or "anchor", is a guy who's rumored to be the most powerful demon in existence. Compelling, full of secrets, and armed with raw sexuality, Knox Thorne is determined to claim her as his anchor, creating a psychic bond that will prevent their inner demons from ever turning rogue.

The billionaire also wants Harper in his bed. She's not so sure she wants either of those things. No one seems to know what breed of demon Knox is, only that he's more dangerous than anything she's ever before encountered. But he refuses to walk away. And when an unknown danger starts closing in on Harper, it seems that Knox is the only one who can keep her safe.

As Prime of his Las Vegas lair and a successful businessman, Knox Thorne is used to getting what he wants, and he wants Harper. He'll have her, and he'll keep her safe from the threat that looms over her. Because Knox protects what's his. He won't allow anyone to take her from him. Even if it will mean letting the demon inside him rise and wreak the havoc it was created to make. Contains mature themes.

Sex and action = great read!

So, we have another story with a strong female and male character and their turbulent relationship, which is ruled by their hormones and stubbornness. The characters have demons that reside within them. Their demon defines their type of magic. Our male and female protagonists, Harper Wallis and Knox Thorne, wield unique magic that are not easily identified. That is one of their attractions to each other. Their demons are very powerful and their sex becomes an act of dominance versus tenderness.

This society is ruled by Primes. A prime is a very strong magic user who has a following of people based on many criteria. For Harper, it is family based and with Knox it is an allegiance of friends. The plot of the story centers around a former childhood friend of Knox’s, of course she is a former lover too. She wants to change the structure of Primes and have them answer to one individual instead of them autonomous.

The secondary plot is of dark magicians wanting to use Knox’s magic. To accomplish this, they kidnap Harper. As with any romance story, it is never smart to take a man’s lover. Especially when the lover delivers mind blowing sex to him.

Knox is the typical boring male who becomes soften and falls for the women who stands up to him and others for him. He is extremely powerful. His demon type is a secret and it is his bane to carry. He has accepted that what he is and resign to being alone. Think of the Beauty and the Beast scenario.

So, our main characters are the one-dimensional character we have seen in countless “romance” stories. I kept reading because of Harper’s response to her cousin being beaten before a fight. You do not mess with her family. The Wallis family is a family of imps. Even though Harper is not an imp many of her characteristics are describes as such. Much of Harper's behavior coincides with that of an imp (crafty, can find anything, cannot be contained, and evasive) verses phoenix (winged, swift, graceful, challenging to pin down, strong, fierce, brave, single minded in stalking their prey, elusive, daring and persistent),

Many of the adjectives used in the book are used to add sexuality ie, taste a name, delicious prey to hunt, greedy ache to posses.

The final plot was the relationship with their demons. In their culture, you can be an anchor, creating a psychic bond that will prevent their inner demons from ever turning rogue and a mate, which is like marriage but more intense with demons. An anchor does not necessary require a sexual relationship while being matted does.

This being a romance novel much of the story revolves around the battle of Harper’s and Knox’s will to accept what their demons what physically and mentally from each other. So we endure many steamy sexual scenes where the body is weak and willing to make love while the mind is resolved not to develop an emotional connection. Both characters are kick ass types and that is what kept me listening and will read the next books.

It is an interesting world that Suzanne Wright built and I want to learn more. If you do not like explicit sexual content, this is not for you.

Hell Fire.

If you like Suzanne Wright’s Phoenix and Mercury series, this book is good too. This focuses on the demon world vs the shifter world, although it is just a different society in the world Suzanne Wright has created. They may even intermingle in the series at some point. But demons like the city life and shifters like wide open places. There is a ton of sex and I think it could have been toned down some, but if you know how she writes then you are aware of what you are getting yourself into. I was a little bummed when I realized the next two books are also about Harper and Knox, I was hoping for other characters to get their time in the sun too. I will be getting the next book sometime in the future. I noticed a lot of people did not like the narrator, I thought overall, she did good. There were a few voices that were questionable but it wasn’t as bad as what the other reviewers were saying.

Disappointed by the narration... way to childish

The story is good, the love making hot. However when told by a whiny childish voice it’s a big turn off. Someone else should really reproduce this. Very disappointed and a waste of my money. I wish I would have just read this.

NARRATOR RUINED IT!

Harper is supposed to be a strong, independent character and because of the horrible narration she sounds like a whiny 13 year old girl! I listen to hundreds of audible books but never again with this narrator. I liked the storyline and will finish the book no matter how hard, but never listen to another book by this narrator. Do the authors not hear the narration???

Narrator was hard to enjoy.

I just couldnt get into Kat's narration. The voices were all wrong. Either sounded like an old woman or whiny teen.

Eh

Story is amazing. However the narration completely ruins it. If I wanted to hear an old lady moan I’d just Google it, I don’t wanna hear it for 12hrs. Honestly just read it. I won’t be buying the 2nd audiobook.
