"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes.

A do-over.

This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path.

Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries-old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a little while.

That is, until I learn what the house really is: something I never would've thought possible.

As my new life begins, a couple of things become immediately clear: Forty isn't too old for adventure. Not by half. It is too old to take crap from anyone, however, or care what people think.

I had no idea how incredibly freeing that could be. Or how dangerous this new life would become.

I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

I am a little older than the main character, Jucinda, but for some odd reason I found her very relatable. I believe there are many women who have either experienced a major turning point in their life or will do so eventually. When that happens we make decisions that chart a new course for our lives. That is what happens with Jucinda. I love how she revisits a town she encountered in her youth and discovers the oddest "people" with whom she manages to befriend in a short period of time. The story unfolds at a good pace complete with wit, humor, magic and a little bit of possibility (hey...this is a K.F. Breene book...one can imagine can't they?) Who knows what hides in the shadows? I won't give you the answer to that question. But, if you take the time to listen to the book, you will experience Jucinda's unusual journey and will probably enjoy the ride!

I could be Jucinda!

First off, Nicole Poole is a fantastic narrator. She really brings the emotions and characters alive.

Secondly, story was wonderfully fun and interesting coming from an older main character then the normal 20 something. I liked how she embraces certain aspects of herself but like everyone has a few things she’d like to adjust. Her “friends” are a fun lot plus We got a touch of a love interest and I’m excited to see where the series goes.
