Publisher's summary

My name's Lyra Ridley, and I run headlong into supernatural danger for a living.

Of course, that's not how I sold the job to my adoptive vampire dad. Or what I put on my dating profile for that matter. And I do have a wet-your-pants-level terrifying dragon partner rushing headlong into danger with me. But she, like my unusual magic, is frequently more hazard than help.

Despite all that, I love my job protecting the streets of post-magic-revolution Las Vegas - where humans and supernaturals live side by side, or are at least having a stab at it. So when I get suspended and some jackass takes my city hostage? Yeah, there's going to be hell to pay. Even if it means I have to team up with a mysterious supernatural I know nothing about - except that he has pointy ears, a rod up his backside, questionable priorities, and could kill me with his eyes closed. My dragon partner likes him even less than I do. Then again, she doesn't like anyone, including me most of the time. But I'm pretty sure she won't barbecue either one of us.

Still, you'd better wish me luck.

Warning: This urban fantasy series contains danger, mayhem, humor, and heart, with characters you'll fall for - including a vampire with an unbeating heart of gold, a book-hoarding dragon who eats criminals for breakfast, a mysterious supernatural who's as hot as the desert he slunk out of...and a human heroine who'll fight to save them all.

Includes Of Flight and Fancies: A Ronan Bonus Scene.

great read

I love the narrator. This book was different, and I love the characters, and I wonder if a romance will happen between these two.

Entertaining

Very good story. Love the main character, her friends and family. There’s a potential love interest but no real heat🔥 in this story but hoping for future romance. But the plot and the relationships and heart in this story is so good. I laughed, I cried and I ordered the next book in the series. Very well done.
The narrator did a good job as well-no complaints with the performance.

Worth It

Well written and well performed, it had all the components that I like, action, adventure, and bad guys versus the good guys. There’s just a hint of romance that may be more than a hint in the end. The story kept me well engaged, not tempted to doze off once. I look forward to the rest of the series.

I adore this witty world of magic this author has created in this series. Entertaining and downright hilarious at times, this urban fantasy will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end! I was definitely left wanting more and can’t wait to dive into the next book! The perfect balance between mystery and fantasy, I’m so thrilled to explore this new world!♥️

A Nice, Tight Little Book

I'm probably far from this book's demographics, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit and look forward to the next one. It had a good plot, likable characters, and was generally well written all around. What else could you ask for?

Rabid chipmunk narration

Couldn't get past Chapter 4 of the story. The story itself seemed just fine and I think I would high pitched way too rapid fire speaking of the narrator went far beyond establishing the detective noir character of the protagonist. At first I thought there was something wrong with the recording because it sounded like Alvin the chipmunk on speed. Sadly, I'm passing on the whole series of what is likely a good author because the narration drove me nuts. Too fast & high pitched.

So many good qualities, and a likeable female MC

Such a very pleasant surprise! This book has a lot more depth to the plotting than I was expecting. The author has created an excellent, fun, unique family unit (vampire dad, shifter & fae foster siblings) to be the background for the main character, all very lively and likeable, and with developed personalities. They are all set within a unique worldview where the Fae have let magic loose on the world, and most humans now have some type of magical ability, and a lot of humans are partially Fae. The main character is 24 years old, a police officer in the Las Vegas force. She is a very admirable person with a kind heart and a good set of ethics. She's the kind of officer you'd hope to have talking to you if you ever brushed up against the law. There's a slowly growing romantic interest between her and a Fae that neither is acting on because they feel there's no future in it, so they haven't pursued it, but both are thinking about it. He sounds just gorgeous, quiet, elegant, soft-spoken, quick witted, with soft black-feathered wings and a Ducati motorcycle for when he's not in the Fairy realm. She, on the other hand, has a police officer partner who is a dragon, who would much rather be reading books from her book hoard, and, who sometimes lets our main character fly dragonback if they are in a hurry. This is a complete book, with a satisfying ending. And, as a bonus, there's an epilogue with a bit of his point of view thinking back on his time with her. And, there's a generous section of the next book in the series as an appetizer. This was very easy to enjoy, fun and I will buy the next book.
